I normally read NIV, and I see no loss in Messianic prophecy between it and KJV. I also read NASB, or NKJV if I'm wanting to crossreference a passage. I'm kind of a Bible collector in that I read in many different versions at BibleGateway and whereever else.

I only use KJV if I know I'm going to be dealing with KJV Only people, in which case I don't want my points being thrown out the window or my spirituality challenged simply because I used a "wrong" translation.

And yes, when I finish reading the NIV and NASB, I'm considering reading the NRSV or the TNIV to see what all the fuss is about over those versions "gender inclusiveness." Flame me all you want, but I want to see if the debate is over important truths or if it is, as I suspect, a secondary debate.

In english I like to read King James because I've read that almost all others change things here and there. Now, I gotta say that the NIV is pretty modern english so its easy for me to get. The truth of the matter is that I always go back to my mother tongue spanish and there's nothing better than the Reina-Valera 1960. Excellent bible. Very tight translation!

Whats that modern King James bible that is not the NKJV, KJ 2000 or something like that? I would like to read that one which they say is just like the King James and only modernize outdated words.

God bless,

I prefer the NASB because I like it more, but I often use an NIV because it puts the passages in plain English. Too many "thees" and "thous" can get confusing sometimes. Although I do notice that sometimes NIV word choices take slightly away from some of the passages.

Their all good if they're all the word of God!

I prefer the St. Joseph Edition of the New American Bible because of the notes. I like the Douay-Rheims for the Psalms because of the Latin titles, and the NIV for hitch reading; I have been known to use the King James for specific quotes, and the Phillips translation for a varying viewpoint.

If I really want to get scholarly, I'll dig up the Septuagint or the Vulgate, but that isn't very often. :)
