Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon issues state of emergency ahead of Ferguson grand jury decision

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard Monday in advance of a grand jury decision about whether a white police officer will be charged in the fatal shooting of a black 18-year-old in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson.

Nixon said the National Guard would assist state and local police as needed, in case there is civil unrest when the grand jury's decision is announced.

There was no indication an announcement is imminent. There is no specific date for a decision to be revealed about whether Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson should face charges for shooting Michael Brown on Aug. 9. The St. Louis County prosecutor has said that he expects the grand jury to reach a decision in mid-to-late November.
According to media on both sides of the state, a decision has been "imminent" since last Friday. I suspect the true bill has already been handed up, or there is no true bill, the jury passing on indictment. The latter is most likely, allegedly the evidence pointing to an attack on Officer Darren Wilson prior to the shooting. The city and the state have needed time to prep for the outbreak of demonstrations, which activists have promised regardless of the outcome of the grand jury deliberation.

With Nixon's action this afternoon, I suspect the decision is coming down very soon -- and I kind of wonder if they aren't waiting for the arctic cold front to move into the area to limit demonstrator activity. That should happen tonight. It already moved through Kansas City this afternoon, with temps in both cities expected to drop to near zero overnight. Demonstration organizers have been shipping in out of town professional civic unrest specialists since last week.

This is evidence that justice is not what the protesters wanted at all, ever

Exactly. If they were concerned about justice, they would be preparing to make an apology for their false and offensive accusations.

That will never happen because, as you and Mach said, they don't care about justice, they just care about drawing TV cameras to the city so they can loudly whine and complain about "racism."

I guess it's racist for a white officer to refuse to be beaten up, or have his gun taken away from him, by an 18-year-old thug the size of a St. Louis Ram O-lineman. I don't say Michael Brown got what he deserved -- no one deserves to die like that -- but if you attack a police officer, you'd better expect consequences.

Basically, they're claiming they should have the right to commit strong armed robbery and assault and battery on police officers and any police officer who tries to stop them should go to jail.

I once read somewhere that blacks make up 67% of that town. All they really have to do to change future events like Mike Brown is vote next election. I'm sure a new Mayor/city council members can fix the police.

We have this thing called "voting" in america.. perhaps you would like to exercise your right to use it?

Do you suppose there will be a candidate running on a platform of allowing young thugs to commit strong armed robbery and assault and battery on police officers which will result in the police officer being jailed? It could just be me, but I don't see that as a viable candidacy.

Whether he did or not we'll find out in court.

But the police do have a history of brutality in the city regardless of what plays out in the court room. They can change all of that in one voting session.

Citation, please. Before you do, let me inform you, I'm only 170 miles from Ferguson, I have friends in Ferguson. You're in Ohio, three states away, and you "know" Ferguson "has a history of police brutality"? So show it. Link some media reports of police brutality in Ferguson. We'll be waiting.
They can change all of that in one voting session.
Ferguson has a mayor/council form of government. They have a black mayor. Four of their six council members are black. I'm pretty sure that's indicative of the fact they do not have a "race problem."

By the way, you "know" Ferguson's police department history but apparently didn't know the city government is largely minority leadership?

Now that's interesting ...

I didn't say I knew? Did you read my previous post of "I heard..."? Please don't jump to conclusions.

Uh ... no. This is exactly what you said.
But the police do have a history of brutality in the city ...
Emphasis mine. You did not say you "heard," you said they do have a history. But thanks for clarifying that you were only repeating unfounded rumors rather than speaking from actual knowledge.

Again, did you not read my previous post? Obviously I do not know. I should have worded that better. with: "I think they have." oh well. Not the end of the world for me.

Your previous post dealt with the fact that two-thirds of the city is black. Can you tell me how that has any application to your next post alleging police brutality?

Well I meant to edit it in, but I just replied and made a new post. So I am pretty much the only one seeing a connection.

I thought 67% of the city was black, and if they all voted, they can change those who are in charge for stop supposed police brutality by not tolerating it and firing those are are a part of it.

Does that help make the connection? Should I explain more?

As for the OP I believe the National Gaurd is called for given what has already happened. I believe that the police do overstep but in this case I think that he will not be indicted and not so sure he should be. I think you get rid of the outside agitaters and leave the residents to deal witjh things it would remain peaceful.

Exactly. But someone in or near Ferguson is interested in making this decision painful, no matter what that decision is.

Since the city's leadrship is already mostly black, I'm wondering what you think the voters should change? I'm pretty sure that an African-American mayor and four of the six city council members being African-American means they're already very sensitive to police department relations with the constituency. That's what I said in the first post I made regarding your comments.

I have read a few posts from the town inhabitants on various web sites who wish the out-of-towners went away because they are not helping anybody and just causing trouble.
