I am Orthodox Christian. Profile has info on how long, why, etc, if anyone wonders. If for any reason I want to release more info on which diocese I belong to, I will do so there and not on request. Choice of icon is because I am a Christian, not "Eastern", a label that makes no sense in my opinion. As a bonus, the design of the Christian icon communicates what I am better than most other choices. Yes, I'm an aesthete of sorts.

Interests:
Conversation, which I consider to be a fundamental human need, the arts in a broad sense, nature, history, reading etc. (I have many interests, more than I can keep in my feeble working memory.)

While quite social and occasionally talkative, I am also a people repellant of sorts, but if anyone should find me "agreeable" or if You just want to chat, then You can PM, but of course there are better ways to chat, such as Skype for example. Just letting You know that despite the first impressions that I usually make in public, I am quite soft-hearted, empathic and tolerant on a more personal level. Small groups or one-on-one.

Now You have an idea of who I am for sure. Enough for the time being anyway.

And why do I introduce myself? Well after all, in spite of all the quirks of the cybernets, this section probably hosts many of the persons I have more in common with on this site.

In conclusion:

Hi!

Welcome to TAW!

You sound like you may be a bit opinionated, but I'm sure we'll all get along just fine, so long as you don't bring up anything like beards, beer, food, music, sports teams, television, politics, toll houses, iconography, priests, bishops, history, ethnicities, the latest issue of People magazine, and about 500 other things. (I think Gurney made a list once.) :p

As long as he doesn't mention anything from my list, he'll be fine! ROFL!

You forgot fasting. I know you said "500 other things" but fasting HAS TO BE included in the "up front" list, I think. :p

Hi!

And Erth, welcome to TAW!

It's very nice to "meet" you! You'll have to excuse us, sometimes the mood in here is a little ... well, fun, LOL. ;)

But we're a semi-diverse group, I think. And generally easy to get along with. (You might even get away with mentioning some of those things on Chesterton's list. Just please don't mention Chesterton - the author G.K. Chesterton. ;) )

:D

Seriously, welcome. And hang around. You'll find we're not that bad. ;)

welcome! hope you stick around! the only thing I would say is you might want to change your Cross to the EO Tribar, because that makes following and enforcing our forum rules easier.

anyways, welcome and I hope you stick around!

Thank You!

I'm used to ignoring the abridged, magnified, collected works of a certain author who is pasted all over the webs.

Thank You, haven't posted in a while. But I've stuck around.

"Christian" fits better for an Orthodox Christian than "Eastern-Orthodox" does. To my knowledge there is no such Church or faith. I have many posts in other forums on this board and the purpose of a faith icon is to communicate something to others. I certainly have no reason to call myself "Eastern" where it's equally irrelevant and invalid.

Baklavas...stay away from that subject, it can get quite heated since most people here are very opinionated when it comes to baklavas.

In conclusion:

Welcome!

Hi there, thank You.

Normally, "opinions" about pastries, the sounds produced when eating them etc, are not harming anyone, even more so when most people appreciate them. I would even say that they may give rise to a sense of thankfulness to the Lord.

I agree totally, I am just pointing out that only EO are allowed to debate outside of St Justin's, so the Cross makes it easy so that the moderators don't think you are breaking the rules.

You could always PM the mods? I was messaged by one when I first came here, and let them know I attend an Orthodox Church. I had decided to keep my generic "Christian" icon until I am received into the Church for other reasons as well. But it still may be possible that someone may forget, so it might be something that would have to be dealt with if there is any debating going on.

I don't tend to debate within Orthodoxy anyway, so it might be a non-issue for me.

it's more of a problem for others who come on the forum. if they see that one who does not have the tribar Cross able to debate and such, while they cannot, it might raise some questions. not necessary, but makes stuff easier.

Oh, I see. Thank you. I hadn't thought of that, but I can see where you are right.

So I guess the fact that I don't debate is what allowed me to do this? Not that I didn't want to change mine, but I didn't want to do it prematurely either.

(ETA and as of now, I've got only 5-ish days to go anyway!)

Thanks for the info.

no, it's that on this particular forum, only EO are allowed to teach and debate. there are a ton of folks who cause problems by violating the rules (like that Byzantine Catholic dude a little while back), and there are those like Anhelyna and inquirers/catechumens like yourself who follow the rules and it's no big deal.
