Video - Voting machine errors: Illinois Democrats get a little unfair advantage

It probably wouldn't be that hard to actually program the machines to do this, anyone with prolonged access to the machines would have opportunity to do this, including poll workers. Those machines are not the most complicated machines in the world.

Lol, ok. Before I call you out on another case of just pulling things out of your backside (henceforth referred to as "The Taco Bell Syndrome"), why don't you explain to me how a person would program the machines to do this.

I don't know all the specifics into hacking a voting machine, but I have read about this being fairly easy to accomplish.

Show us how it's done.

Here is my simple demonstration of the perspective trick using an Android tablet.

What you claimed happened was not a man in the middle attack. With such a hack, the voters would never even realize that their vote wasn't legitimate.

Such hacks are fairly above the skill level of your average poll worker.

Yeah, I thought they were using that term incorrectly, too. If anyone's interested, here are videos of those two hacks:
Election Security - Vulnerability Assessment Team - Nuclear Engineering Division (Argonne National Laboratory)

Basically, the hack requires physically installing a circuit board inside of the voting machine. Despite their repeated mentioning of how inexpensive the parts can be obtained, the ability to analyze the voting machine's circuits (particularly with the touch-screen model) and to devise and program a circuit to interrupt it is certainly NOT something your average kiddy can do. It's a very labor-intensive hack, since it requires physically disassembling each machine to be hacked. It also requires that you know the layout of the ballot options ahead of time.

Any newer system built off PC parts is going to be nearly impossible to hack like this.

I'd just like to reiterate what a stupid conspiracy this is. The democrats are going to steal the election by making republicans push more buttons?

That you would make that comment attests to a great deal.

Would you kindly articulate what my disbelief in a vast idiotic left-wing conspiracy attests to?

  • The video in the OP used a perspective trick to dishonestly claim something that was not true. I demonstrated said perspective trick in a video in which I used an android tablet.
  • Hacking a voting machine is no simple feat, and well above the skill level of your average poll worker.
  • Any hack that showed the voter that they selected the wrong candidate and allowed them to fix it is a crappy hack. A man in the middle attack would convince the voter they voted for one candidate while submitting a vote for the other. Not being detected is sort-of hacker 101. Think about it - is the plan to steal the election by making people who vote Republican push extra buttons?

Fortunately, the OP's video didn't exhibit parallax. It was a head on photo shot.

Appropriate corrections need to be made to the voting machines.

Really? No chicanery whatsoever?

It seems like a pretty obvious illusion to me. I'll grab a screencap to illustrate.

If it's all a matter of visual perspective, why did the local election board pull machines and replace them? Seems to me a waste of time if the issue is line-of-sight, as you try to explain here.

It is to be noted that your illustration is highly misleading. The "object" in the videos is not midway between the eyes and the touchscreen but rather is at the touchscreen. Parallax errors are typically very small while the touchscreen errors observed are so large that "gross calibration error" is an accurate description.

That machine didn't get pulled. If it had been pulled, then the illusionist would have difficulty filming themselves using it after it had been pulled.

The ones that were pulled had damaged touch screens from voters jabbing them too hard with their fingers. Calibrating a touch screen is easy. Repairing a damaged touch screen is not easy. If a touch screen was taken out of service, it's because it was damaged. The repairs would probably take too long for the machine to be ready by the election.

I'd like to reiterate that this is one of the most idiotic conspiracy theories I've heard. It ranks up there with the queen being a lizard. Who masterminded this conspiracy and what is their goal? What do they hope to achieve by making voters click more buttons? Do they think that voters will just shrug and vote for the other candidate?

I've repeatedly demonstrated that this video uses a perspective trick. I've demonstrated the exact same trick on an android tablet. I've illustrated the indicators that the trick is being used in the original video.

Does my android have a gross calibration error?

So, we're dealing not with crooked Democrat politics in Illinois and Maryland ... but instead with a vast Republican conspiracy of voters complaining about encountering considerable difficulty having their votes correctly registered?

Nope. Not buying it. I pointed out that your illustration is highly misleading ... and how the video in the OP didn't lend itself to parallax errors.

Here is another angle on the trick to more closely mimic it's use in the OP video.
Curiously, all your videos show up as "private".

Regardless, unless you can fully mimic the OP video you haven't made your case.

The angle does make it hard to tell which side of the line the person is clicking.

I find it odd how "confident" the GOP is this election yet are setting up for the excuses for loss.

Party of personal responsibility. It's never their fault, always something else.

More of a group of voters with fat fingers and bad aim, and the rare broken touch-screen that was broken by voters hitting them or prodding them too hard... and someone who dishonestly used an illusion in a YouTube video.

When investigated, these claims are almost always user error.

That having been said, is this a serious issue? Really? Assuming there really was a conspiracy...what is stopping people from fixing their votes before submitting them?
