Hillary: Businesses don't create jobs

Couple points:

1. 37 seconds? really? There was no other context? (I mean because we saw how dishonestly the Right spun the "you didn't create that" moment for Obama...so I won't trust that this isn't the same thing).

2. I don't know which reality our Conservatives on this board live in, but in the REAL world (USA circa 2014) industries and businesses trading on Wall Street are getting MASSIVE infusions of capital (record highs for the Dow Jones) yet very few new jobs are being created. This is why this recovery is so slack and lackluster. It shows that "trickle down" continues to be the BIG LIE.

Here's what I'm guessing is the real context:

Businesses, if you give them everything they want (money, money, money) will create jobs only occasionally and not systemically enough to sustain the economy without pulling in more people to the money-party. ie you can capitalize the megacorps out the wazoo, but their C-suite greed will have to be slaked before they bother caring about the people who do the work.

I just saw a news article about a Fortune 500 company whose CEO was working for $1 salary until they made significant improvements in the company at which point they got a >$1 million base salary (and if you think they were living without money while earning only $1/year...think again, they got millions each year in other forms of compensation, stocks, etc.)

And guess what part of this CEO's plan was? LAYING OFF or otherwise attriting THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of people in the company. In fact SEVERAL THOUSAND MORE were announced to be laid off after the CEO got the $1 million raise!

Tell me again how giving megacorps so much capital they can't shuffle it offshore fast enough to avoid taxes and can afford to give $1 million raises to CEOs who are basically laying people off is "businessses making jobs".

Anyone who claims they don't need the whole story has basically admitted that truth is not important.

No matter what the truth is, whether it agrees with them or not, the whole story is always needed.

Yet I'm betting if a Republican said something like this you'd be fine with a sound byte. Fox News and Rush Limbaugh rarely get more than a few seconds of consideration from the left.

And usually out of context

Actually you are wrong. I would still want the whole story. Not sure why you are simply assuming it is OK to insult someone on a forum.

Unfortunately with Rush and his ilk, the context doesn't change what they said in the least. Usually supports it.

So what is the context here? Surely it should be easy to find out.

A longer clip is available but I can't find the full transcript. Still it is quite clear that she is talking about TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS, which, again, is demonstrably shown to fail every single time over the past 30+ years.

As noted earlier the recent DJIA spike of historic highs sees corporations capitalized to unheard of levels. Yet they aren't making jobs. That is why this "recovery" is so weak. You can't just make money without ensuring you have a solid consumer base.

In addition Hillary mentions the tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations who then turn around and ship jobs overseas.

This is probably the fuller context. But the Right can't be expected to be honest about this point. Nor will they be. They will lie and misrepresent it until hell freezes over.

So you don't think she was saying what some say she was saying.

Can we agree then that corporations and businesses do create jobs?

A point which Hillary was completely wrong about ... as evidenced by looking at median household income.

Prior to Reagan, Carter had driven the economy into a ditch. Reagan's new policies resulted in steady improvements which lasted through the first year of Bush I. Subsequent improvements again occurred under Clinton which almost brought median income back to Reagan-era levels ... but the smoke and mirror techniques which were used under Clinton collapsed in Clinton's final years in office. From there a more or less steady decline ensued under Bush II.

The decline under Obama has not just been steady but precipitous. Sad ... and unnecessary, IMHO.
