Good question though it leads to the main crux, is "that" tribulation the "great" tribulation or is their an actual ramped up version still to come. For few would disagree that they and we still suffer in "a" tribulation.

John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

Yes apostles/disciples and followers of Jesus suffer and suffered tribulation. People tend not to do nice things to those they hate.

The apostles/disciples stoning/prisons stays, beatings, and deaths were forms of obvious sufferings. Destruction and slaughter of believers in Jerusalem ad70 events as well. The crusades, and the persecution we see today against the church and believers. Lest not forget about the jihad wars against Christians and Jews through various islam sects including isil/isis/is.

TRIBULATION

trib-u-la'-shun (tsar, tsar, "staid," "narrow," "pent up"; compare Numbers 22:26):

2. In the New Testament:

The Greek is thlipsis, a "pressing together" (as of grapes), squeezing or pinching (from verb thlibo); used figuratively for "distress," "tribulation"; Septuagint for tsar and tsarah; Vulgate (Jerome's Latin Bible, 390-405 A.D.) tribulatio pressura (from tribulum, "a threshing sledge"). The verb form is rendered "suffer tribulation" (1 Thessalonians 3:4 the King James Version, "suffer affliction" the Revised Version (British and American)); "trouble" (2 Thessalonians 1:6 the King James Version, "afflict" the Revised Version (British and American); compare 2 Corinthians 1:6; 4:8; 7:5; 1 Timothy 5:10; Hebrews 11:37). The noun form is rendered in the King James Version variously as "tribulation," "affliction," "persecution," though more uniformly "tribulation" in the Revised Version (British and American). The word is used generally of the hardships which Christ's followers would suffer (Matthew 13:21; 24:9,21,29; Mark 4:17; 13:19,24; John 16:33; 1 Corinthians 7:28); or which they are now passing through (Romans 5:3; 12:12; 2 Corinthians 4:17; Philippians 4:14); or through which they have already come (Acts 11:19; 2 Corinthians 2:4; Revelation 7:14).

No I do not think their tribulation and our current tribulation is the Great tribulation that Jesus forewarned us against. I believe it will get much more severe, while seeming contradictory the only way I can iterate the minute differences is that during the great tribulation any association with Jesus and God will G a sought out death. Unlike today where we can semi - openly assemble and discuss/practice. Where in those future days Christians/believers will get sought after as a collective whole and not just the individual.

As for John and his 2 mites--".....and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled."

Whoa, let's not throw everything to gether that is nominally Christian. Nor are persecutions against Christians and Jews for the same reason, for the simple fact that there are Jews who "bury" family members for becoming Christians. We can't just say we are victims and claim divine protection.

There is the expression: suffering for righteousness sake. That's not just and not primarily our own righteousness by the way. WHen he said that in Mt 5, he had already been speaking of his own righteousness which saves those who believe in 3:16. So it is opposition to his offer of his righteousness that is the 'offense.'

I've stated several times in different threads, passages that are in the old and new create a clearer picture, and when the old and new are independent from each other context is what's used to attempt an understanding.

Just because it's not clearly spelled out does not mean we toss it or ignore it. While we might not have the best understanding, its something we need to at a minimum pay attention to since its Gods word and does have a true purpose besides a page filler.

And if you get the interpretation wrong, then you become a false prophet or false teacher, like Hal Lindsey, Grant Jeffery or William Miller.

Jesus said over and over again to listen to him. Why not listen to Jesus?

Krazed,
it's hard to believe that with 2500 uses we couldn't start establishing some gneral patterns. If they don't sound or look like what the popularizers do today, too bad.

We can agree completely on that.

Though again the general patterns are where we all differ, an it's typically do to our human bias of wanting scripture or God to conform to our understandings and not vis versa, as it should G.

Any guesses on when the Global Market Collapse will come? The National Debt Clock will be over 18 Trillion on our credit card by January 1st and now our Government says that going back to full scale war in the Middle East will bump that up to 2 to 3 Trillion per year until the war ends. That is so sad it is funny. I keep hearing our beloved President keep saying "America is not a Christian Nation". There has to be a point that acts like a trigger and we get down graded big time. Any guesses?

I believe the Tribulation and the Great Tribulation are the same. It starts at the 5th Seal following the First 4 Seals that make up the Beginning of Sorrows. However the Mark Decree does not go out until around the 7th Trumpet. By then all of the Pre Tribbers will have woken up and will begin in earnest spreading the Everlasting Gospel to all nations, peoples, and tongues on the planet with us. Did you know that Christians (especially in the United States) have a specific Mission during the Last 7 years of this current age. It is a very very dangerous mission and only the bravest of Christ's Soldiers will accept it. Some of these brave ones will actually ask for multiple deployments into the hostile territories. Many Christians will stay here in the United States and assist them with their mission. Right about now you are asking yourselves IS THIS Biblical or just a well written novel? Here is your answer: In Revelation 14:6 we are told by Jesus who is revealing on these future events to John His beloved that around the time of the 7th Trumpet sounding Father will send an Angel to go forth around the world assisting brave Christians in the spreading of the Everlasting Gospel to ALL Nations, Peoples, and Tongues. He is NOT beside you to Protect you, he is there to assist you with the mission that Father has given you. You will most likely die after you have completed your mission and escaping back to America to gather more supplies (bibles, leaflets ect all in the language of the Country you have chosen based on how brave you are!!! The same event is mentioned in many places throughout the Bible. In Matthew 24:14 Jesus is talking about the same event at the 7th Trumpet. He says that He will NOT Return for His Bride until the gospel in preached unto EVERY Nation on the planet during these last couple years of the Tribulation Period. IN Revelation 12:11 we again told that this is how we "OVERCOME" Satan when he is here trying to hold onto the Kingdom of the Earth. Because we do not "love our lives to death" we accomplish Father's mission for us. The Court in Daniel chapter 7 (after seeing the numbers/results of the Great Martyred Soul Harvest pictured in Revelation chapter 14(7th Trumpet time-frame) (which Jesus Himself is brought before the Court in Daniel 7 to give account of how WE are doing) awards the Kingdom of the Earth to Jesus and His Saints. We take possession 45 days later after the 7 Bowls of Wrath which are used by Father to drive all the Nations' Armies to Judea to witness OUR Great Wedding Day. During the Tribulation period of 7 years (that I believe will start in the next 15 years or so) the Bible says that Israel will be totally surrounded by Muslim nations about to break through their defenses. This will be the opening of the 7th Seal. The fight will begin and the 7 Trumpets (which serve the dual purpose of "sounding the alarm of battle" and also serve as Trumpet Judgments of Wrath by God on Man especially in the Middle East) will sound one after another over a period of many months. At the sounding of the 7th Trumpet Jerusalem's defenses will have been totally overrun. Jesus will return 45 days later AFTER the Bowls of Wrath are used to Gather the nations of the World to Judea for the final Battle. During these last few months of this current AGE the "MARK DECREE" will go out around the World while YOU are carrying out YOUR Mission (and NO you won't be Raptured out a head of time) In fact the Devil would give anything if the Strong Brave Believers is Jesus would leave the planet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Again, you will be here until the Wedding Day and you Need to start preparing for YOUR MISSION. Not by stocking up on weapons, in fact Jesus tells you specially NOT to hurt anyone when carrying out your mission. You with the help of this Angel in Revelation 14:6 will carry out GREAT EXPLOITS in your mission to preach, teach, and handing out of Bibles and Leaflets IN THEIR LANGUAGES. DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON YOUR CHURCH STRUCTURES!!!!!!!!! BUY printing presses instead. Maybe even hire linguists who can put these bible passages into a hundred different languages. Yes we should be doing these things now, but our final mission will start soon. I do not want to make you believe that you will not be killed for Christ because many will be. However if you are your soul will be one of those who you see in Revelation 15:1-4 Singing the Song of Moses (verses found in Exodus 15:1-21) & Singing the Song of the Lamb ( verses found in Revelation 14: 3). These choirs of Souls are not fiction or symbolic, THEY ARE FACTUAL EVENTS that will happen. The question is will YOUR American Church except the mission given them in these final days of this AGE.

I have no doubt there are dangerous situations that Christians in the Gospel's mission can find for themselves right now. The point stands no matter what view you have of the Rev.

But don't bother trying to change anything it has pre-written if that's what you believe is there; that would be a complete misunderstanding of what is there!

Mt24A is about things that were to take place in 1st century Judea. You can tell from the various details, artefacts and timestamps in it. Otherwise, at this point in time, you'll have to wait several decades for them to be there, because you'd be talking about a replication of cultural things the way they sat in 1st century Judea (temple, messiahs, Sabbath police, being on tops of homes, etc). That's a problem because Lindsay was a flop in 1981, and 2011 (assuming we can willy-nilly add 30 years to the meaning of a biblical 'generation' just because we need to), has also gone by.

Your point about danger is enough; your detailed work trying to "support" it from the symbols of the Rev are ridiculous. As you may know, there is a complete view of the Rev that says it is about the events which took place in 1st century Judea in a form that helped that generation of Christians come to terms with it, pastorally.
