Things are pretty crazy at the moment with the ISIS, Hamas and the wars everywhere. People in western countries are freaking out about terrorism and showing prejudice about all people who believe in islam and I just wanted to say that I really hope that you do not experience any harassment or hate crime during this really shakey time.

It comes from a place of ignorance and fear. I, for one, know that not all muslims agree with such groups and wish to lead a peaceful life.

Thank you.

I would also like to mention that attacking out of ignorance and fear does not represent all Non-Muslims.

There are misguided people among all groups. I pray that one day all people will learn to recognize that all humans are individuals and none represent anyone except them self.

I haven't heard anything in the news here in America. Do you have some examples to cite of harassment or hate crimes?

The poster did not say there WERE examples (though there probably are.) She just said she hoped that Muslims would not face such issues during this time.

I notice both online and in casual conversation between people there is a lot of fear and negativity directed towards Muslims by those who are uneducated about the religion and world affairs in general.
I feel that something new is in the air though. The hate-Muslim rhetoric seems to be on the increase. Just today on Facebook someone I know shared a "The only good Muslim is a dead Muslim" posting. It's the first time I've seen that. This person is uneducated, a gun freak and is generally very hateful in his postings and he's convinced that Obama is a Muslim kind of person with the trappings that come with that kind of thinking. There are a lot of folks just like him. As we move into a full out war against ISIS, it's those kinds of people that I fear more than any terrorist.

Someone posted something offensive on FB? I'm confused. I originally thought the OP was serious, but now I'm thinking this thread may just be sick, insensitive humor that went over my head.
Being that I'm the one that posted the reference to the FB comment, I want to say that I took the OP as being serious. What I was hoping to get across in my post is that there is a cross section of Americans that hate. That's their game. And as the rhetoric builds to go to war against ISIS, it's looking to me like the hate Muslims faction is growing as well, especially among those people who like to hate. And that concerns and even worries me. Bottom line, I also hope that none of the Muslims here experience harassment or hate crimes during these really shaky times.

Just because the worst of Muslim society have gained power over there does not mean we should permit the worst of Secular or Christian society to gain any power over here / anywhere.

We should recognise them as being brothers to each other. They may wear different masks and misguidedly yell a different name or wave a different flag, but they are the same in nature.

That is what worries me. I see anti muslim sentiments in daily life not to mention the fact that the australian PM put Australia on terrorism threat alert before there was an actual threat (now there is) and I think this may have been so he could start "counter terrorism raids" on islamic australians.

I saw enough anti muslim sentiments on my facebook feed before all of this even happened.

What we need to figure out is -are those we consider the worst actually following Islam correctly? Same could be asked about Christians - are the worst really following what Jesus taught?

I often think the same, but actually so what if the answer is yes/no?

There is a hands off mentality when a god is added to an ideology no matter how horrible, violent, and nazi-like it might be.

Again I agree, but it does nothing: the attachment of theology to action neither makes it good nor bad. We should look at the actions of people as actions by humans and among humans, done to humans in the light of humanity.

Someone who does horrible things is a bad person, whether they believe themselves to be or other people believe them to be a good <insert random belief system>

Secularism ftw.
