Hello!
Last year, I was a TA for 4th graders, and unfortunately most of them watched Duck Dynasty and knew about the whole Phil Robterson does not approve of the gay lifestyle therefore he was kicked on the show etc.

Ugh. Children don't need to listen to such garbage, they have their entire life to be bombarded with that garbage.

How do you, if you are a parent, talk to your children about Homosexuality?

Do you mean they made it to 4th grade without hearing quite a bit about it?

I homeschooled my daughter (she's in college now, so it was some years ago). I used to use materials provided by the public school system, until I saw in the books for 4-year-olds such things being explained and made mainstream.

I just thought there were other things preschoolers should be focusing on.

When I have to discuss things with kids that are sensitive in any way, I tend to answer their questions without offering a whole lot of additional info if it is appropriate. Sometimes the appropriate thing to do is to tell them to ask their parents.

The context in which you are teaching, the children involved and the kinds of homes they are from, the policies of your employers, and other things have to be kept in mind. As an employed teacher, I have worked only in the private sector and in a Christian environment, so I wasn't as constrained by legal concerns as some teachers might be.

Thank You Klyssa! :) BTW I didn't really mean younger children- I meant those around puberty age when they learn about sexual reproduction etc. I agree, young children don't need to be scandalized about certain sexual behaviors etc.

Well your 18 so I'm guessing unless you are thinking way ahead you don't mean your children but someone else's children, no? If someone else's you don't tell them anything because that isn't your job, that's their parents' job. If it comes up in the course of teaching, your thoughts and words should would reflect the same things you would state about any other sexual sin and if you cannot manage that you should hold your tongue beyond telling them that is something they should discuss with their parents.
Thank You. I agree.

It's not my place to tell OTHER people's children about sins. It's just that there was a particular incident with 9/10 year olds were talking about homosexuality.....I felt uncomfortable. At that age, I never thought about it. Professionally, I would tell them not to discuss such a topic and carry on. Same with a very intelligent girl in the same class, who declared she was an accident.

[My parents NEVER spoke about sex to me....so I didn't even know what homosexuality, heterosexuality, pregnancy really was until I was 11]

Thank You! I agree!

I actually know that girls mother- she's very...quirky like that. However, yes "accident" is wrong to say...

This was in a public school BTW.

[When I was in elementary school [2001-2008], everything was about post-9/11, the war on terrorism, etc. I don't remember social issues ever being discussed, honestly. I would say I was around 11/12 when I knew what "gay" was and what an "abortion" was etc...I was obviously sheltered..or just too innocent. I don't know]
