Contend For The Faith

Jude 1:3
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Romans 10:17
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Earnestly contend for the faith, and the Word of God. For our faith comes by hearing His Word.

Jude 1:4-7
For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

John 1:14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

There is only one flesh we should seek. The Word of God, that was made flesh, which is Jesus Christ. Be ever so aware of anyone trying to teach anything that's not already written in the Word of God. Or anyone trying to deny any part of Gods Word. To deny Gods Word is to deny Jesus.

Jude 1:8-10
Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.

Always be aware of those who try and twist the truth of Gods Word. By twisting Gods Word they defile the flesh. And beware of those who dispute the Word of God, or make it out to be something evil.

Jude 1:11-13
Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

When gathering together to feast on Gods Word. The feast becomes spotted by those who wish to dispute His Word.

Clouds without water represent those without the Spirit of Christ, those who follow after the teachings that come from men, instead of the teachings that come from the Holy Spirit.

Waves that rage from the sea, are like those who stir up trouble, by disputing Gods Word.

Jude 1:14-16
And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.

To dispute the Word of God, is to speak against the Lord.

Beware of those trying to please men instead of God only. For it is the Lord who will judge us in the end, and Him Only.

Jude 1:17-19
But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;  How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

When Gods Word is disputed, those who dispute it separate themselves, from the body of believers, from the body of Christ. When someone disputes Gods Word or those who use it, they are doing nothing more than mocking His Word.

Jude 1:20-23
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

We must keep ourselves in the Love of God. Some will be saved by compassion, others by fear. We should rely on the Holy Ghost to show us who needs to be saved in what manner.

Jude 1:24-25
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

Only Jesus has the power to save our souls, and keep us from falling. It is His Spirit that teaches and guides us in the truth of His Word. Always keep your eyes set on him, and beware of those who only wish to dispute His Word.

May we all learn just what it means to earnestly contend for the faith. To seriously defend the truth that can only be found in the Word of God.

There are many other scriptures that speak of contending for the faith, please feel free to add them.

It seems that of late, the posts I make have come under heavy attack, though I don't mind anymore because I understand why. And so for the duration of my stay at these Forums, I decided to post only His Words, and for the most part I will remain true to that decision.

Nevertheless, in this case, I am compelled to make a comment.

We hear sermons and read posts that are the words of the one speaking. Sometimes those posts are great and other times not so good. But now and then there comes along one that is obviously anointed, that is to say, "inspired" and Holy Spirit directed. Those are a delight and pleasure. This one truly fits this description.

Not long ago, I attended what was an in depth study of the Book of Jude, that was like an 8 week course on those 25 little verses, conducted by a most anointed Bible Scholar. What a JOY! There are things in this Book you could read a thousand times and never truly see with your spiritual eyes without giving heed and yielding yourself to the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit.

I wish all Christians, at this trying time in which we live, could take the time to get into this rich and meaty Book in God's Word.

This post is timely and anointed and thanks GraftMeIn for allowing God to use you for this at this time, and in this way. This post has blessed me and I pray it will bless all others who read the words you have written.

Gerry, respect your decision, and love the Verses posts. But please, Your like the Elbow here, *grins*, a part of the body. You and others here have really made a difference in my dragging my feet to doing what the was right in God's eyes. I for one, would be blessed if you continue to correct me, affirm me, and instruct me in what God has been teaching you in His word.

Glad your still here though :)

Reeann, you have no idea what your words mean to me. If Christians would just spend some time in the Book of John, and learn and remind themselves daily of what Jesus taught concerning the Family of God, we would all have a much easier time in this life.

He has taught us so much of the importance of being an encourager, and I feel this is an area where we all tend to fall down. But loving one another and bearing one anothers burdens and being an encourager is vital to our spiritual health. I assure you that each word of encouragement is like a dose of good medicine. And I sincerelt appreciate it. Thanks.

I have to agree with Reeann, It's always a blessing ot hear what you have to say Gerry. I've always enjoyed seeing the way you encourage others, and the way you contend for the faith :)

Isaiah 50:8-9 He is near that justifieth me; who will contend with me? let us stand together: who is mine adversary? let him come near to me. Behold, the Lord GOD will help me; who is he that shall condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up.

LOL GraftMeIn, I see you have used my own tactic against me! lol I have been very encouraged by many PM's, and by a few posts made by others and now these words from you, topped off with rather clear direction and encouragement from the Word of God, Itself.

I can rebel against the words of many people, but I will not rebel against the written Word of God. Every servant in the Bible, who did that, did not fare well. I do not wish to join their number.

Thanks for your encouragement buy using the Word of God as your base. And thanks for your faithfulness and love for Jesus!

LOL I love the way smiley faces can say so much without words. Sometimes that is all that is needed to encourage a brother/sister. I know that sometimes a simple smile, or the touch of a hand, or just a look can speak volumes. And the Family of God needs to be serious about supporting one another in these trying days in which we live, bu loving one another and bearing one anothers burdens and praying and encouraging one another.

Hebrews 10:25: "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."
