I wouldn't exactly call myself devout, but one of the reasons I became Catholic was for the ability to drink alcohol. I've tried many kinds of booze over the years, ranging from beer, to Bourbon, to Korean rice wine, but I'm discovering new spirits of inebriation all the time. What are your latest or best booze discoveries?

Hard to recommend anything specific since it's so subjective. Plus I bounce around a lot, not tied to any specific brands. Lately I've been enjoying Blue Moons' Pumpkin Ale, for what it's worth. Seems early in the year for that but I've had it before and IMO it's good stuff (and I rarely go for "flavored" beers).

I occasionally drink, though in moderation.

Through the testimony of the Church, and through the scriptures, it is known that being taken to alcoholic drink is not honoring our bodies.
Someone should've told Jesus that before he drank wine.

Drinking alcohol isn't "sinful" or "bad" unless taken to excess.

My comment was that drinking alcohol in in excess, or "being taken" to spirits is sinful. Not that drinking alcohol in general is sinful.

I meant more along the lines of specific brands. I know people like beer, wine, and liquor. What kinds of these do you like the most? Have you had any welcome surprises? Any recommendations? That's what I'm after.

I'm kind of an expert. Give me some beers, liquids and mixed drinks you like and I'll be your booze Pandora and point you towards other things you like.

I can't be of any help with ciders or lambics, too sour for my tastes.

Lambic has to be Cantillon or Drie Fonteinen. Preferably the former for guerze and the latter for kriek.

Cider needs to be a good, dry, farmhouse cider from the English Westcountry. Likewise Perry.

Sadly, those are not realistically obtainable in Australia. Most of the really worthwhile ones are only making a few thousand litres a year.

Carlo Rossi, Gato Negro, and Novelino red wines and Japanese sakes are my all time favorite boozes.
But... In moderate amounts only. It would be drunkedness if I go for more than two 250 ml glasses of any of them.

Teetotaler here. I don't like the taste or smell of alcohol and I don't like feeling "buzzed" on alcohol (too sloppy).

I like to say that I only drink in Church. On that note, some parishes get some really nasty wine (licorice tasting -- do they use anise seed in some wines as a flavoring agent?) for the Sacrament and others get some pretty tasty wine for the Sacrament.
