None that I'd recommend. Most of the documentaries are made with a "conspiracy theory" mindset (e.g. to undermine the church) or, instead, with an overly simplistic "polemic" style that reduces the history to arguments in favor of one church or another.

Does anybody know of any good ones? preferably that can be viewed online...
If I may say,

There were some very interesting and refreshing documentaries I recall coming across years ago that seemed very insightful - as well as exceptional in their depth and treatment of the Early Church. They were focused on giving the facts and showing how rich things were - with the documentary being made by the Greek Orthodox Church. The one I was talking about is the following:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkJ0n_dkx-8
History of Orthodox Christianity - Byzantium (2 of 3) - YouTube
History of Orthodox Christianity - A Hidden Treasure (3 of 3) - YouTube

There was also one by John Romer which was very fascinating, IMHO.

Byzantium: The Lost Empire - John Romer

None, but there a few good books on the subject. Its also a very broad subject. It maybe easier to zero in on how the Church spread or originated in a specific city or region. For example any documentary or history will most likely have no bearing on the history of the church in india and Iran.

There's a book called the "Christian Parthenon" , that alone is an interesting read on how the Athenians eventually embraced Christianity in the 6th century. Any documentary would simply say St. PAUL preached there and St Dionysos was elected first bishop of Athens, the end.
