Your translation is off a bit...

Jeremiah 7:22-24New International Version (NIV)

22 For when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt and spoke to them, I did not just give them commands about burnt offerings and sacrifices, 23 but I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you. 24 But they did not listen or pay attention; instead, they followed the stubborn inclinations of their evil hearts. They went backward and not forward.

Just another reason why any translation based on the KJV is hogwash.

Sorry, I thought the statement by God that He gave no instructions to those fleeing from Egypt regarding animal sacrifice, was not in agreement with the instructions to Moses in the first three chapters of Leviticus.

As with all Biblical interpretation, CONTEXT, CONTEXT, CONTEXT. Any passage of Scripture must be understood in the light of the teaching of the Scriptures as a whole and the immediate context. Setting a single verse up as though it is the end all of Biblical interpretation is not only proof texting but heretical. Far too many build their theology on select verses of Scriptures without regard to the immediate context or the whole of the teaching of the Scriptures. It is nothing but a whimsical idea gained from an incomplete knowledge of the truth of the Scriptures as a whole. We do not contrast one verse against another we seek to understand the verse according to the whole of Scripture.

Hi franky,

Most false religions come from someone taking one small passage of Scripture and setting it off by itself and then building a theology around just that single piece. Read the next sentence. If you do, you will find that God said that He did not speak to them about keeping burnt offerings and sacrifices, but about obeying Him. And what is it that God asked for them to obey?

God bless you.
In Christ, Ted

Wonder if "in the day" doesnt mean what we think it means. See here in Exodus 20 where the command was given:

24 “‘Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you. 25 If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it. 26 And do not go up to my altar on steps, or your private parts may be exposed.’

Command didnt come until they were well out of Egypt, but in any case, the command was definitely given. How would you reconcile this franky? Is Moses a fraud?

I see your point about the command being later than the day of their departure from Egypt.

Consider this, Moses was exposed to sacrificial ceremony in Egypt, the practice of animal (and human ) sacrifice was found in nearly all ancient societies.
Judaism was not the only group in the ancient world who practiced this.

Moses Wrote the first five books of the bible.

Jesus said He came to fulfill the law, He did not teach animal sacrifice.

Nor did He condemn it in the Temple. In fact, He only condemned the selling of them in the Temple. If you pay close attention to the Gospel, Christ never condemns any OT Law, but only provides crystal clear clarity of them. I don't believe we are under the Law, nor does it apply to us any longer, for we are under a new covenant. Yet, at the same time, there is value to understanding the Law, for by it we know what sin is and can better understand the Crucifixion of Christ.

Humans are animals, and Jesus sacrificed Himself. It's the ultimate "animal sacrifice" if you ask me. Hence why we call Him the "Lamb of God."
