Which Christian do you agree with?

Two Christians were listening to the comforting words being spoken to a bereaved widow. “Your husband was a good man and now he’s in heaven” said one comforter. The first Christian thought to himself, “Yes, he was a good man. He was always friendly, never said a bad word about anyone and was generous more than most. Although he never professed to be a Christian or spoke a word concerning faith in God, surely God would welcome him into His kingdom.” The second Christian thought to himself, “I really liked him. He was a good friend. It is sad that he will burn in hell for eternity because he did not receive the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.”

They are both mistaken.

I agree with the first one. Hell is not a place, but the opposite of eternal life i.e. eternal death or non existence.

I agree with the first one. I'm a Universalist in my view of the Gospel. All souls, Christian or not, will eventually be reconciled to God through Christ. Jesus said, "If I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all people to myself". and he also said, "I have other sheep that are not of my fold and I must seek them too". If there is a hell, it will not be eternal. It will only be temporary and used for purification before coming home to our Father. When we are at that the divine judgement the questions will not be- Did you profess a human created creed? Did you take Jesus as your Lord and Savior? No, the question will be per Matthew 25- Did you care for the least among us?- Clothing the naked, feeding the hungry, giving drink to all who thirst, binding up the brokenhearted, visiting the imprisoned and sick. Whatever you did to the least of these you did it to the Lord. I have seen great numbers of genuinely Christ like people outside of the church and some of the most un-Christ like people I have seen are too often my fellow sisters and brothers in Christ.

I agree with the second one... I get appalled when I see people at funerals saying a man went to heaven when their is no chance that person did.. Instead preach the truth and the gospel to try and save those who still have a chance

Your thinking the man had no chance is not the point. What does God think? And you are not able to know that even though you think you do.

I agree except there was the goats in Matt 25. I believe Ezekiel was on track when he wrote the soul that sins, it shall die. The righteous, not the wicked shall live and not die. Jesus seemed to agree with this. There is a consequence to being a Hitler and while I agree even Hitler will not be tortured forever by a loving Creator, I don't see Hitler being able to slide into Heaven by a bit of suffering.

The wicked shall die yes, we can all list names to who goes on that list. That's not what the OP was about however.

My general thought is I think Christians can hope for universal salvation; however, it seems clear in the Gospels & elsewhere that there is some sort of exclusion from the Kingdom. What that exclusion actually means is another matter- as far as what it will look & feel like, or how long it will endure. We should be people of hope, not of condemnation.

I agree with the first as well, at least over the second. Even back when I believed in hell as eternal conscious torment, I would not have seen the point in taking the second person's approach at all. I mean, even if eternal torment is true, what, do you really think Jesus would want you telling the grieving family and other loved ones that the person they loved is now burning alive and screaming his head off? What good does that do?

Not quite either. I would not presume to judge any soul, but would leave that to Him who knows all hearts.

I do agree with this though:

Also, I don't believe in heaven as an eternal destination for anyone. I think it's a place of rest and recreation while awaiting physical resurrection.

I have to agree with you. Although I have grown since those days when I did believe in "hell", I never did see any sense in telling grieving loved ones that their loved dead was now roasting in the pits of hell..it seems so cruel...
