Because you have yet to offer any evidence showing that your opinion is that of the majority, nor have you offered any reasoning to show why your supposed right to not see a woman breastfeeding because you find it to be "gross" outranks my right to see a woman breastfeed because I find it to be beautiful.

As I have already pointed out--a point that you constantly ignore--is that most breastfeeding statutes allow the nursing mother to determine how much of her breasts to expose. Since those bills passed the state legislatures--the elected representatives of the people--I think it is safe to say that the majority of the American people do not find breastfeeding to be "gross" as you claim.

Argumentum ad populum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In argumentation theory, an argumentum ad populum (Latin for "appeal to the people") is a fallacious argument that concludes a proposition to be true because many or most people believe it. In other words, the basic idea of the argument is: "If many believe so, it is so."

This does not in any way answer my post. Do you have any evidence to show that a majority, or even a sizable minority, find breastfeeding to be "gross." If not, we must go with the assumption that the elected representative of the people have adopted the majority view.

BTW, still waiting for any explanation as to why you supposed right to not see women breastfeeding because you find it to be gross trumps my right to see women breastfeeding because I find it to be beautiful.

Ignoring questions simply proves that you have absolutely nothing to support your argument.

Since you are acknowledging that you know what an argumentum ad populum is, can we assume you will no longer make arguments such as;

Many people do find it to be gross.

Yes, but many people do see it as gross.

Many people disagree with you.

Problem 2-There was a recent yahoo article about a woman being told in a restaurant to not breastfeed. I read the comments, and a lot of people in the comments section agree with me that women breastfeeding in public is disgusting.

Problem 3-Everybody is entitled to their opinions, but many people find the concept of seeing a woman breastfeed in a restaurant to be disgusting.

A lot of people think it's disgusting.

and the like?

There is nothing gross or disgusting whatsoever about babies feeding in the way for which Yahweh God gave the design. This is the case wherever it is done, otherwise we go backward in consigning women to limited places over this. You would only be highly brainwashed by some to think otherwise.

Of course there is nothing gross or disgusting about mothers nursing their babies...the gross or disgusting aspect is when they insist on doing it immodestly... I nursed my five children whenever they needed nursed...but never immodestly.

Of course the whole problem is that different people have different interpretations of what is "immodest".

Why would a mother feeding her baby be doing it so as to flaunt her breasts? And who are we to know and judge motives of others? And doing that even if breasts are showing? We are in no position to know or judge any others, and there is no biblically based position for this issue anyway, and this with babies fed this way through all the millennia. We ourselves need Yahweh God's mercy on us, and not his judgment which is still always fair, unlike our own.

In Africa, people run around half naked and think nothing of it...it is an uncivilized Country...and in much of Africa, there is no such thing as modesty. But here...in the US, we are a civilized Christian country (supposed to be anyways) and the sexual parts of the human body should be covered when in public, nursing or not nursing. Just because one is nursing, that isn't license to be immodest. There are principles taught in the Bible, modesty is for sure one of them...and as Christians, we should be modest at all times....

Because everyone knows the more civilized you are the more clothing you wear. ^_^

The cultural arrogance is phenomenal.

I haven't read all 62 pages of this, but I'm just going to throw this out there.

If your breast feeding, your breast is visible. Men love looking at boobs, and looking at boobs that arn't your wifes is lust and a sin. If you are breastfeeding in public, you are putting a stumbling block in front of men who are trying not to lust. All your intentions in the world doesn't matter, because at the end of the day, you breast are visible and its very hard for men to look away. Its like putting an alcoholic drink in front of a recovering alcoholic. Technically you aren't causing them to sin because they still have to choose to drink it (or lust). But you just made it a LOT harder

I know a guy who is a former alcoholic who hasn't had a drink in 25 years. We drink in front of him all the time. It is up to him to not partake. As has been said in this thread that you haven't read (wow, three rhymes!), if a guy has a problem with a woman breast feeding, that's his problem, not hers. Do you really think that the potential lustful thoughts of a man outweigh the dietary needs of a baby?
