Anyone have any fun summer plans?

We do! My wife and I are going 5 hours north of here; we have rented a cabin at a fishing camp on an Island 9 miles from the nearest town for a week. We will be fishing many bays, channels and around other islands for Pike, Muskie, maybe some Bass, and Pickerel, and definitely for some Perch. Fishing is great there, and it's been about 12 years since we took the time to go up there. We are both looking forward to this so much. I took a few extra days the following week, so it's back to work for two days, then the next week I'm taking off to roof our rental property... big job.

Besides this, I go sailing for a few hours every week and sail in the odd race too.

What about everyone else?

That sounds like a great time, Mark!

We'll have some family come visit us next month so that is exciting for us. I just wish I could see my daughter. I miss her. She's interning this summer and we can't drive out there to visit :(

Time with family is always good! Our daughter is only a 1/2 hour away, 28 years old, and is busy with her life. We only get to see her once or twice a month, and we still miss her not living at home. How far away is your daughter?

She's 15 hours away right now. Once she goes back to college she'll be 11 1/2 hours away. Her tuition is due at the beginning of August and our HVAC systems needs replacing here at our new house (new for us, 13 year old house) so we have to be tight with our money.

I dislike airlines. On Oct. 10 I checked airfare to fly home. It was $130 total. Today, when I went to book that, it was over $400. So, that pretty much nixed my trip home unless I want to fly into an airport that's 90 minutes away.

UGH! That's a HUGE leap!!

I was thinking of maybe looking into airline costs to get my daughter home for Thanksgiving but unless there is a huge sale, I think we'll have to wait until December to have her come stay with us.

You would think that with gas prices down now that airlines would reduce their prices?

Yeah, I'm not sure why it jumped that way. I have noticed that if I'm looking on the same day sometimes the flights get cheaper. I think this was because I was looking on a Friday and now it's Sunday...I really just don't know.

I used to take the train all the time but they've suddenly stopped doing round trips to Lansing from here.

It's frustrating, and then add on that my husband is none too helpful because he'd rather I not spend the money! ^_^

Yeah, that money thing ^_^

Too bad about the train.

I don't really recommend the Greyhound bus. I did that in my 20s and even though I suffered through it well enough and met some nice people, it was torture! WAY too long of a drive for a semi long trip.

Plus, there was an a car accident as we first began the journey, and the bus driver announced, "No one saw that right? That's what I thought, let's keep going!"
