Ms. sheina:

Yes, I would certainly agree with all you say.

When Bible readers stay confused about these distinctions it can lead to misunderstandings.

Malachi is at the end of the Old Testament, of course, but still Old Testament dispensationally.

I love that Toplady hymn! There is such a wealth of truth in the classic hymns of the church. I do like Christian hard rock, as well, particularly if is has good. Biblical lyrics - which some of it does.

Blessings.
Actually, the four Gospels, until the time of the crucifixion/resurrection of Jesus Christ, are basically part of the OT dispensation. John the Baptist, who came in the "spirit and power" of Elijah (but he wasn't Elijah), was the last OT prophet.

I would not disagree with this; the birth, death, burial and resurrection and ascension of the Lord Jesus were pivotal events in the approach to Pentecost, the birthday of the church, in Acts 2.

Malachi, though the last book of the OT, definitely fits there.

Blessings.

Remember, there was a 400 year "silent" period between Malachi and Matthew. Did you listen to the youtube video?

I've been listening to it; I loved the man's affirmation that 'the church of Jesus Christ is not under law but grace!' :)

Ms. sheina:

Exactly! :)

Giving more than a tenth as a cheerful, voluntary act, but to try to impose the Old Testament law on struggling New Testament Christians is wrong.

Thank-you for the video!

Blessings.

...and it all ties right into a thankful heart, doesn't it?

Well, exactly; and thankfulness is linked to prayerfulness and joyfulness also, as Philippians 4.4-7 and 1 Thess. 5.16-18 show.

(It's really good to do Bible word studies... :) )

Blessings.

Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Ms. sheina:

Good verses; they show that the whole paradigm of provision has shifted from that of Old Testament saints to that of New Testament saints under grace.

Blessings.

"A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?" ~Malachi 1:6

The gall of these priests despising God, then having the audacity to challenge God and ask when they despised Him...even as they harbored hatred in their hearts as they asked it....

It's not the church in view here, but it can be a sobering challenge to those who profess today also.

Blessings.
