I love Jack Benny. I also love his radio rival, Fred Allen. In real life, of course, they were very close friends and their rivalry was just made up for radio.
Allen had such a great improvisational wit and Benny, of course, was the straight man who was funny because all the craziness around him was normal and his normal reaction to absurd situations was the comedy.
Benny, Rochester, Phil Harris, Remley, and Mel Blanc always crack me up.
Somebody asked what Steve Martin is up to these days. It looks like he's retired from acting to devote all his energy to his music. Over the years, he's performed on and off with members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. The NGDB was the backing band on his hit single, King Tut.
I prefer my bluegrass a little more traditional than Martin plays, but even I have to admit, he's very good.
