Opposed to Untruth.
Hi Cary, thanks for answering this question. I hope you don't mind that I want to address each of these things and show you how I see your attitude compared to mine, in context of being a problem for you to understand God the way I do. It is not so much to tell you that I think you are wrong, but more to defend my own position. If you want to think I am wrong to think about God the way I do, then I see that you have two options to achieve that. Either you could explain why you think I am wrong so that I can learn from it, or you could just say that you think I am wrong without telling me why. It's up to you, I hope you will consider it carefully and do the best thing.
I can see that these are carefully chosen words, so please be careful to acknowledge these points. There should never be an end to questions unless someone is brain dead, that is natural for a human who thinks. Inconsistencies indicate either that the information represents untruth, or that the vital information is not being considered at the right time. You have a choice to make about this and you can take two approaches. You can either decide that the information is true or false and then justify it, or you can consider the information and then decide if it is likely to be true or false.I think the question you are referring to is what I mean by saying God doesn't "fit" with my understanding of the real world. What I mean is that If I assume God does exist then there are too many unanswered questions and inconsistencies to be believable.
My guess is that it is the only way to achieve His goal. Why did he create the world as he did?
Does it only appear that way, or is it actually that way? I don't know the answer to this question, so I don't make the assumption either way. My career doesn't call for it, so I am happy to let people have that opinion who rely on having that opinion, so long as they are honest in their opinion. So that it appears to be millions of years old?
What makes you so sure of this?So that animals appear to have evolved form earlier forms?
Man is mortal. As I understand, there is not enough time for man to learn to be perfect, so unless God devised a reality that is timeless for mankind, then it only seems natural that mankind will make mistakes. Every creature makes mistakes, because that is a natural effect of a world which has a beginning and growth. This would lead into your first question, why did He create the world this way.Why did he create man so flawed?
This doesn't seem to be true. What do you mean? Why was he so active in biblical times, but seems to be absent today?
Do you think that He should create mana for everyone who needs it? Do you think He should strike down everyone who bleeds the charities? Do you think He should strike down everyone who opresses someone else? Do you think He should strike down anyone who doesn't do as He wishes them to do? Poverty can be solved by mankind and it can be induced by mankind. The failure of the world to thrive is not His fault, it is the fault of those who care for themselves at the expense of others. We all have that tendency, some more than others, and I think it is a skill that needs to be developed. But we also have the ability to unite. You are quick to say God should do something about it, what do you suggest He should do?I also don't see a loving god in the bible. I see a god who can turn water into wine to keep wedding guests happy, but won't help the starving children your church is praying for.
Do you understand His point of view at that time?I see a god who killed every living thing on the planet, save for one boatload of people and animals.
What are you referring to?A god who told people to rape and murder.
Do you mean at the tower of babel?I god who wanted to keep man from gaining knowledge.
That isn't a loving god, nor worthy of praise. But everyone who God has revealed Himself to says that He is loving and worthy of praise. Do you accept that your concept of god appears a bit unrealistic? How is this a loving god, worthy of praise?
I don't see how this contradicts what your view of the world would be if you did believe God was real. Do you think that if you did accept that God is real, then you would no longer be able to make sense of the world and explain it?When I look around me I see a world that makes sense, that can be explained. We certainly don't know all the answers, but we continue to learn more about our world, and the universe it exists, in every day, and none of it relies on magic.
Sure, I wouldn't suggest that you should lie. I did not actually expect you to say that you don't support Jesus. Why don't you?Yes, this is something I would object to, because it would be a lie. As much as I love my daughter, I can not lie to her in order to make her feel better. It would be immoral to do so, and I would hope she would respect this and not wish to be lied to.
