Nope haven't read it. Never heard of until I seen the trailers. Admittedly when I seen the trailer I thought "Probably another teeny based movies with kid soldiers, eh.". Turns out I was wrong. Movie was great! Not sure how many books there are but hopefully we get to see what happens next.

Wow, I was thoroughly disappointed, especially hated the liberal anti war message. "Yes, they slaughtered us but if we treat them right, they will apologize & we can be friends."
:hhh:

What about loving your enemies? FYI the author of the book is a very conservative mormon (to the point that some fans of his books wanted to boycott the movie due to some of his political/moral stances, notably regarding homosexuality). The message of the movie/books was never about lying down and letting your opponents stomp on you. The protagonist killed two kids before he hit puberty to survive. I think the author is rather trying to reconcile the christian message of loving your enemies with the realities of war and violence. The protagonist found redemption from the dehumanization of killing and genocide by trying to understand his enemies and through that understanding finding love for them. Maybe this sounds simplified, I read the books as a young'n and never reflected that deeply on its moral messages.

In the movie, Ender isn't a pacifist. He is upset because the enemy wanted to make peace, and because he was tricked into genocide. It's not let's be nice and hope they don't kill us again. It's, they've been trying to get me to listen and I didn't hear them. Their last remaining member forgives Ender, which is surely Christian.

I enjoyed the movie myself and have thought of buying the DVD. And I agree with Hendrick in that the movie did not seem to convey a pacifist message. To me it rather conveyed one of respect for life, which is a good message for adults and kids.

The book was the same way, so its not like they changed the film against what the author wrote. Ender was horrified by what happened.
