What's your latest insight about God?

amen to both...the most difficult time we had, when accepting God's will for us, was when our son died. The most helpful thing we found for helping our hearts and minds to conform to His will was to take our thoughts captive...II Cor. 10:5 and putting those thoughts on the things of God...Phil. 4:8...very powerful tools in learning to accept God's will in everything...just my two cents...thanks for this thread, so encouraging!

Mmm yes, that's true. Sorry for your loss. It's never easy. I'm glad you are able to hold onto God through it. It'll be wonderful to reunite in heaven =)

One of my latest light-bulb moments was, you can have your needs met, but your wants will never be satisfied. Jesus will meet all of our needs, as in seek ye first the kingdom.
However the natural man can never satisfy wants, they are like a dog chasing its tail.

So true! A lot of people will be so much happier if they understand that. Myself included! I try to keep that in mind always but it's something that we should remind ourselves from time to time really. People should read about 'Hedonic Treadmill'. God is the one who can give us true ever-lasting happiness.

That He is the only one who really knows whats going on... and there is great reasurance and comfort and a sense of comeraderie because of that.
I've been going through some stuff lately and its really like no one sees or understands and been feeling really discouraged. Then this morning was sitting in the car before church and just said to God going to church is hard and you know everything and it was nice not to have to say anything more because He did understand and it helped a lot.

Amen. :) Thanks a lot for that post. I needed that. I am going through quite a bit myself. I feel a bit better after being reminded that God knows everything. There must be some reason for everything. :)

The first time I read it, I was surprised that Jesus rebuked the disciples for getting afraid. I thought, “It’s only human to be afraid if your life is in danger!” But if they had understood that GOD was with them, they would have calmly woken Him up and asked Him to calm the storm. Simple. Even now He can calm any storm in my life. And He is with me! Why should I worry? I still worry because of my lack of faith. But I can’t see any logic in worrying. My worries weaken when I realize He is with me.

I understand what you're saying. Over the last couple of years, I've seen first hand how much stress impacts us physically. Sometimes it's a weather report or even an upcoming doctor's appointment - that's before you get to the death of a loved one, etc. He says for us to cast all our cares on Him because He cares for us (I Peter 5). This Scripture is one that has been in the forefront for me, too.

But if they had understood that GOD was with them, they would have calmly woken Him up and asked Him to calm the storm.

The implication seems to be that the disciples could have calmed the storm if only they had enough Faith. Jesus rebuked His disciples more than once for their lack of Faith. Maybe it's we that are asleep ;). How much Faith do we need to calm life's storms? Seems like all of us are in need of more insight about how Faith operates.

Matthew 17:17-20
17 “You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.”
18 Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment.
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Luke 17:6
6 He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you.

Simple version, God was trying to accomplish freeing the Israelites but accomplished so much more...Why did God make Pharaoh, an already stubborn and selfish man, even more stubborn and difficult?

My Notes:
1. God made Pharaoh difficult, repeatedly, showing the detriment and fallibility of a human's decision making

2. God showed His mercy in contrast to the Pharaoh, to the Egyptian people by warning them before the hail, planting the seed of belief in Egyptian citizens

3. God would have made the Egyptian citizens angry with Pharaoh due to his poor decision making/character

4. God made the Israelites such a burden to the Egyptians that not only did they demand the Israelites to leave, but furnished them with whatever was asked!! (benefiting the Jews and making more poor the Egyptians)

"No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions." -Matthew 22:46

That must have been a dark day. I don't know about you all, but I love asking my God questions and waiting on Him to give the answers He desires to grant. The Lord has shown me to never stop asking Him questions. He loves to delight in answering us as a Father gives attention to His children. Abba Daddy is wonderful.

Dear Emerlander. God is Love, and God Loves us. God made us in His image,
and that proves that we also are capable to love as God wants us to love.
Jesus is God-Son, and Jesus told us in Matthew 22: 35-40: " The first and great Commandment is: Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like it: Love thy neighbour as thyself."
Jesus did also point out to us: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Love is very important to God our Heavenly Father,
and God tells us: " everything we say or do, everything we advice or stand for, should be from Love and Compassion. We know that we only have to:
" ask and we will receive," ( Matthew 7: 7-10) then we thank God and share all Love and Compassion with our neighbour: all we know and all we meet,
friends and not friends. God will see our efforts and God will Bless us.
Wouldn`t God`s Love and our love be great to write about? Jesus`s Parables
always tell us much about Love and Compassion, also about Joy and how to increase it all. Could we write Messages about this, and show our insight about
God and Love? What do you think, Emerlander? I say this with love.
Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

I love that God never changes. He's the same yesterday, today and forever.

He will always love me! He won't change His mind!

I find it amazing that Jesus had to pray like that have that close connection to the Father. To go alone first thing in the morning and all... I would have expected Jesus not to require any of that. He is God after all. But I guess He needed to pray that much since He had become a human. I often end up not praying much in the mornings or reading the bible meaningfully. But when it was that necessary for God Himself to pray like that, how much more vital prayer is for me! I need to pray more.

I really like this post. Yeah, its so important for us to pray and pray a lot. God says to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:16). When we pray, we get sustenance from God (we feed the spirit.) both in us able and desiring to follow God's will and also we get wisdom and discernment to do what is right in God's eye.

It is indeed a sober reminder that if Jesus prayed so much, how much more should we pray. Thanks for starting this thread.

Dear Emmy, it'll be great to write about God's love. I agree with all of what you said about the importance of love. Some people are very legalistic in my denomination and I often think it'll be nice if someone could tell them what Jesus said about love. And often I wish I practiced what I preached, and loved God and people like Jesus wants me to! *Blushes* Everyone needs it really. So I think it's a great idea to write about God's love and our love like you said.

I'm a big fan of organizing and classifying stuff cause it makes life so much easier. So I wonder what's the best way of doing this. To be honest I am a little confused. I'm confused cause it's within the scope of this thread to share the things you want to write about if you were impressed about them in your Bible study. Or are you asking me cause you feel it'll be nice to broaden the scope of this thread in some way? Do feel free to say what you feel. I believe openly expressing our views with love is one great way of improving a lot of things in life. =)

Absolutely! Our God is the best father. We can and should ask Him every question we have. I think they didn't dare to ask any more questions cause they weren't asking questions to learn in the first place. They tried to trap Him with their questions but kept getting owned. So they figured it's best to keep their mouth shut. Matt 22:46 makes smile. Silly people. One doesn't win arguments with God! lol
