My other thread got goofed up so I'm trying again.
A commonly held belief is that we are both sinners and saints.
My understanding is that we are not both but that we, as
Christians, have become new creations (saints)

I am both. Just because I am a saint - which means a believer, a sanctified one, one who is set apart to God, does not mean that I no longer sin. Even Paul admitted that he still sinned. We are always sinners, but, once we are saved, we are also saints. The word "saint" does not mean free from sin although the RCC definition of "Saint" may encompass that. I am not sure quite what their definition is, but it includes being dead and having had miracles performed by them or in their name or both. That, however is the definition of "Saint" with a capital "S" and you can't be one of those until you are dead anyway so none of us who are alive fit into that definition to the best of my understanding. I am sure that if I am wrong, some member of the RCC will politely correct me.

When people start getting healed by my shadow or handkerchiefs, I might be inclined to think that I'm on the road to becoming a saint. More likely though, like Paul, I'll still consider myself chief among sinners.

Is that what lukewarm means?

I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. Revelation 3:15-17

I may have been wrong on that one. Have to do a little bit of research before I can get back to you.

PS. Seems the only reason Jesus wanted to spit them out was because they were neither hot nor cold. So, that throws a wrench in my theory that hot water represented saints, whilst cold water represented sinners.

I'm sure that Paul did think he was the worst of the bunch
and I'm sure we all feel that lousy when we mess up.
Loathing.
But what does getting healed in your shadow have to do with
a "gift"?
It's God who has taken the sin from us.
It's God who has created in us a new heart.

I wasn't aware of your hot water theory.
But it looks like you're getting something.
Can't wait to hear.
IMO
being a 'saint' AND a 'sinner" would be as impossible
as serving two masters.
Love one and hate the other or despise one and
be devoted to the other.

Maybe lukewarm has to do with passion?

IVP - Andy Unedited - A Lukewarm Interpretation of Hot and Cold: Revelation 3:15-16

I like this dude's explanation of Rev 3:15-17.

My thoughts exactly. You can't be both, gotta be one or the other. You cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons.

Simul iustus et peccator.
Hmm, my latin is weak at best.
I see both something and something.
So I'm gonna guess it's both saint (iustus from just?)
and sinner?
;)
I disagree,.. obviously lol.
We ARE the righteousness of Christ.
That's our identity, so I don't see how
we can also be "peccator" (hope I
didn't get those wrong or this is going
to come out all goofy!)
^_^

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
And that's too amazing for words.
Thanks JacobLaw.

Neither. I am a believer of Christ or Christian, I do not identify myself as a sinner which I once was and I am not a Saint yet. After I go home maybe than :)

Congrats on being our first "neither"!
:D:wave:

I'm one of the 2 'saints" here.
^_^

OH
ETA I know I don't always LOOK like one,
but He says I am one so who am I to argue
with God?
