• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My OCD has been jumping around for years. It pretty much latches on to the worst thing I can imagine at that time in my life.

I have feared everything from vomiting to harming others.

Now, it's taking a new turn (well, not new...I feared this as a teenager for awhile). I am worried that my home is possessed or that my kids could become possessed.

I read a stupid story a few weeks ago and it led to this. Now every sound at night, I fear that it's a demon in my house. It sounds crazy to me as I type this!

Anyway, I really could use some support or just someone who understands.

Ocd is set off by triggers. Because of what you had read it caused anxiety and fear now your thoughts are going crazy about the subject. First of all if you have accepted Jesus as savior then you have the Holy Spirit. Therefore couldnt be possessed. I had that fear for a little bit and once i studied about it i learned that fact. My advice for you is something i have to do and that is to be careful about what you watch on tv or read. Even other peoples conversations can trigger ocd. Jesus is with you always. Jesus promises never to leave you nor forsake you. Just realize your ocd has been triggered and pray about it. Ask God for wisdom and start reading the bible more. The more you read the bible the less triggers will happen.

Well i believe a lot of christians have gone through that fear. I went through it for about4 months. Then one day i just told myself i was going to trust that God works all things oit for the good of His children and His will be done. I wasnt implying that this is a simple thing because its not. Studying Gods word has helped me with a lot of fears i was facing. Its true when God tells us the truth will set you free. Look at it this way. If something were to happen like that then it is fixable and you would learn from it.

Oh no, I didn't take it that you were saying it was simple. I know everyone with OCD suffers with various things and we all know how hard it is for the other.

See, but the way my mind works, I read that sentence you typed "If something were to happen like that then it is fixable and you would learn from it." as "Something like that COULD happen." Lol...know what I mean?

Thank you for the advice. I think you are right...God's truth does set us free. I need to study the word about His protection and believe it for my household. :)

Yes study the bible. A lot of fear is because we are uneducated about who we are in Christ, and how much God loves us. Once truth starts to sink in with study the less fear you will have. God tells us perfect love casts out all fear. God loves us perfectly so once we get that to sink into our hearts the fear starts to leave. Thats been my experiance so far. Christians are protected from satan. Satan has no power because if God is for us who can be against us. Jesus defeated the enemy on the cross. We have a protector Jesus. So dont have the fear about possession because your a christian you and your family are protected

"I am trying not to make a compulsion out of that. "

What you said just here is key. Anything that you do which lends credence or validity to an OCD doubt/fear will make it worse. So instead of continually praying for God to protect you and your loved ones from possession ask Him for the courage to ignore this doubt.

I went through a period of this as a young woman which was triggered by some missionary that visited our church going on and on about Demon possession. My OCD grabbed it and ran with it. I didn't know I had OCD back then so I spent a lot of time seeking reassurance that I wouldn't become Demon possessed and praying for God to protect me from it. This only makes the obsession worse. Even someone on here doing a very kind thing and pointing out truth to you that you belong to Christ and cannot be Demon possessed can feed the obsession. This is because your brain will then see the doubt as worthy of attention. So label it OCD and try very hard to not seek reassurance about it and use the tool of distraction to turn your attention elsewhere.
I know these fears seem so threatening and it really feels like we shouldn't ignore them but if you've worked through other obsessions you know this is what you have to do. Exposure allows the doubt and fear to just sit there in your mind and Response Prevention means that you do not attend to it. ERP. Praying for you. Mitzi

ocd is all in your head. If you just pray to GOD or even just tell yourself its just your mind, you can over come it quickly

OCD is not something that can be quickly overcome just by praying to God. It's a real illness that some people struggle with in varying degrees for the rest of their lives.

Hi do not fear,

The LORD loves you and your family. He will not let the devil posses you or your children. I have had a lot of experience with demons, and I have come to recognize them, demons are every where, there are demons in my house, there are demons in yours. But they can't take over you. God is in control not them. I have had them speak to me, attack me, and feel them often, trying to resist God's work in my life. But I just ignore them, God will never let them harm you.

There was a famous pastor, who had satsn turn up at the end of his bed, and showed himself to him, he just said "Oh it is only you", and went back to sleep.

I guess that is not real comforting though having a fear they will do something. But honestly they have no power to hurt you. I don't fear them. Neither should you.

You have power, you have strength
God will keep demons at length
No hurt shall come into you home
You are not alone
Your father in heaven is better than
The help of man

I knew when i had read that reply that it would.trigger you. I think what futureandahope was trying to tell you was that the enemy has no power. I dont think people who dont have OCD know about triggers. Look at it this way. Jesus is with you always. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Thats a promise from God. Jesus defeated the enemy on the cross. I know how triggers work i have OCD. God knows your fears, He knows your concerns about your family. You prayed about it now trust that He is faithful.
