Anyone familiar with this book or the entire series of books (Children of the Last Days) by Michael O'Brien?
I'm reading the book "Father Elijah" and I was hooked from the first chapter; actually I would consider it in my "top favorites" of books to have read. The book-or perhaps his whole series in general-is entirely relate-able and shows the contemporary issues the Church is facing and will continue to face. It's scary actually, which is probably why I'm so drawn to this book.
But that aside, I've seen reviews for this book, as well as the whole series, that states that the books are the Catholic version of the "Left Behind" series. I'm not sure how true this is because O'Brien's characters feel like they are living, breathing human beings and the deep knowledge of the Church. I'm assuming that because it's apocalyptic in genre that this series is being grouped together with "Left Behind?"
I don't think I'm going to read the entire series right now because my mind tends to wander, and I found "Father Elijah" to be the most interesting book out of the series (at least in terms of how the books are being described). I figure if I'll read another O'Brien book it will be "Voyage to Alpha Centauri" since I love sci-fi and space operas.
Very good reading though I must say.
