Hoot!!I heard that Obama's retaliation was to defriend Putin off of FB because of this.
I haven't seen this mentioned yet on the subject here. We are bound by a 1994 agreement signed by Clinton to defend Ukraine. Obama will lose face big time if he reneges on it.
Should we tie the missing plane to the USA and Russia stance on the Ukraine? The Malaysian Airliner is not missing and much more | Intellihub News
Russia is the only big power that hasn't gone to serious war in the past couple of decades and so will have all it needs to wage war in its military stores; the US & UK haven't the same resources to hand following on from being involved in Afghanistan / Iraq wars.
The UK now depends on part-time soldiers to raise a decent number of boots on the ground - good as they are, they are not professionals, as Russia's armies are. I really cannot see the UK Houses of Parliament doing anything military because we have one of the smallest standing armies for many, many years - and we are still cutting our military strength, incuding our once proud navy that now has two ageing aircraft carriers but no decent planes, and two new carriers under construction and due in 5 or 6 years.
Put on some warm clothing, and dig out the ban-the-bomb stuff from yesteryear, as a new cold war looms!
What I found interesting is that 80,000 Russians soldiers came to the US in 2012 for training, and that is the number that is indicated to be poised to invade Ukraine.
The West just needs to stop meddling, IMHO. Do we really want another Crimean War? If the Crimeans want independence from the political basket case that is the Ukraine- let 'em have it. Their problem- not ours.
If it crossed the airspace of other nations, without an identifying signal, it would, almost certainly, be assisted to the nearest airport by military jets or shot down. If it is the former we would know - if the latter and they see they have shot down a plane full of civilians they are hardly likely to tell the world unless forced to in some way (ie proof it was in their airspace). I understand there are satellites that monitor the earth for large flash explosions - but those monitors have not picked up any sudden flashes so a crash on dry land is unlikely.
On the other hand, if they flew south over the sea, with limited fuel which means thay would probably not make land, why not just ditch where it was when the signals stopped? This choice makes no real sense unless they were going south before going further east / west - but then they would be back to the above scenario.
The political climate may such that all countries' air space, which the high jacked plane was flying through, was approved, not that they would say anything. The only reasonable answer is that whatever happened to the jet was caused by the leadership of country or countries unknown. Whether the plane is in Iran or Vietnam, somebody knows exactly where it went because they sabotaged it to go there.
The only problem is that Clinton signed an agreement with them. If Obama does nothing, he proves that he is impotent in front of the world again.
