I don't disagree with most of your post but I do disagree with the part I bolded as it can be taken more than one way. I do not believe what "we see' is what it's about. What we may see is people asking silly and acting goofy. What is happening is a group of people seeking God and following what they've been taught.

Yes, I realize that the people following that practice are seeking God.
the seeking is great...
but when the seeking goes against all biblical examples of prayer
then what are we to think?
and when their actions actually hurt others who are seeking, then what?
shouldn't we speak against it?

now, weather you agree or not,
i firmly believe that the charismatics have turned their worship into an idol.
I have spent time in a charismatic church, and have charismatic friends who i love...

I'm not willing to say it's all fake.
i am.
it's tv ministry is completely fake.

and anyone that says halllashabookana is a special form of prayer,
is outright lying or so badly confused
that they have no right to teach anyone biblical things.

all Christians should RUN from it as fast as they can.
don't pass go, don't collect $500.

charlatans, conning susceptible minds
(my uncle is a hypnotist, as was my friends dad - a very famous one too)
some folks just can't be hypnotized
and some are much more easily prone to it.

charismatic people THINK they are having an experience from God,
but in reality it is an emotional response
that one can get from watching a good tear jerker movie on tv.

they've been convinced (either from their self, or the pulpit)
that it's FROM God, and special,
instead of the reality that it is about their emotions/desire TO God.

not sure if i said that the best way, but....

i also don't doubt that there are good honest folks that believe it,
and are not trying to con anyone
even some of the leaders...
they are self hypnotized, which is common in religious circles...

it's called keeping up with the Jones'.
and is based upon DESIRE, rather than instruction from the Bible.

1Cor14 has NOTHING to do with the charismatic teachings of today.
NOTHING AT ALL

there was NEVER a Godly form of babyl.
it did not exist and die out in the 1st century...nope.
it never existed as the charismatics would have you believe.
not in Acts, not in the Gospels and not in 1Cor12-14.

imo charismatics (and others) have a problem reading more than ONE line of scripture at a time.
if they simply continued to read,
then the whole chapter falls nicely into place
as Paul repeatedly teaches the right way and the wrong way
to spread the Good News past all language barriers.

the rules for continuing the great commission,
not as some magical form of special prayer and answers from God

and i think it is sad that not only the charismatics give it credance, but so do some non-charismatics
thinking that it is readl, just not for them.

lol.

It sure seems real to those doing it whether it real or not.
yep, sure does.
hence why telling someone that they believe in a lie
and are doing the OPPOSITE of what God said to do,
doesn't get great resonses, lol.

I know some of what we see is as fake as fake can be. But you can find a fake in any congregation. I'm thinking Jesus had to deal with one of those himself.

personally, i ponder Judas...
he repented and even tried to stop the murder of Christ
and was killed for it, cut from top to bottom and hung on a tree.
plus Jesus ORDERED him to do what he did...
but that's another topic for another day...

Jesus never prayed like that, never.
Jesus even taught us how to pray, when He was asked that exact question.

People have simply mistaken what Paul taught,
and made a whole religion out of it.
it's an idol for sure!

But that aside I'm thinking along those same lines you posted.
good to hear!

Inviting the Holy Spirit in prayer is certainly traditional. hence the "Come, Holy Spirit" prayer, or in Latin the Veni Sancte Spiritus.

But there's a difference between inviting the Holy Spirit to come and bless us and comfort us; and the invoking, and nearly magickal way of thinking, that tends to come in some churches. Where the idea isn't an invitation of God the Holy Spirit to come and comfort His people as the Paraclete, the Comforter, come in Christ's name by the Father's authority being present in His people; but rather a nearly magickal invocation of power.

As MoreCoffee said, the People of God already have received their anointing from the Spirit, rather specifically, this has happened in our Baptism by which we were sealed by the Spirit to new life in Christ. There is no further "anointing" to receive, we've received everything, by grace, through faith, from God in Christ Jesus our Lord. The things of God our ours in Christ, for all that is Christ's is ours by His most excellent and over-abundant kindness.

So what anointing are you wanting that you don't already have? You want power? You want super powers? You want signs and wonders? Well our Lord Jesus Christ has said, explicitly, that it is a wicked and faithless generation that seeks after signs.

You want more blessing? You have by your Baptism received God the Holy One, blessed be He, King of the Universe, who has deigned to dwell in you and to cover you with the name of Jesus Christ and His righteousness, to stand before the Almighty Father in all His awesome glory just and justified by Him and in Him. What more could you possibly need or want?

Doesn't the Psalmist say, "Yahweh is my shepherd, I shall not want. He sets me upon green pastures, leading me beside the calm waters. He restores my soul, He leads me in the path of justice for the sake of His name. Though I may walk through the valley of death's shadow, I fear no evil. For You are with me, Your crook and staff comfort me. You have prepared a table before me in the presence of my enemies, you have anointed my head with oil, my cup is overflowing. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of Yahweh forever."?

He is our shepherd, we have no want. He has anointed us with the oil of salvation in Christ, the Son of David, King Eternal, sealing us by His Holy Spirit, and in Whom we have our adoption as sons and daughters, as heirs, joint-heirs with Jesus. We have been freed from death's grasp and grip, we have been seated above with Christ in heavenly places. We have the fellowship of Christ's Table, the victory banquet over death, sin, and the devil; the glorious proclamation of their defeat by Christ.

What more blessing could there be? What more anointing could there be?

He has given us everything.

No you wasn't. What you was doing was trying to interject your controlling opinions over someone.

We are not going to have fellowship here honey, so go find someone else to try and manipulate.

Good day.

lol...your demeanour is nasty bro...and i gotta repremand you.
don't get offended, but you are not acting Christian

let the lady have her say...

i personally agree with her point of view.
and she's certainly allowed to say so.

don't pull that old, women aren't allowed to speak, routine...

that'd just prove that you've misunderstood Paul's words on multiple subjects.
not just tongues.
but what else is new....

I am very much in agreement concerning the bulk of the TV guys.
I am convinced Paul was speaking of speaking in other actual languages. Explaining basically that speaking Latin in a group of Greek speakers needed a translator for it to be understood. The tongues of angels spoken of was an example to teach a truth as it was as foreign a tongue as he could imagine. In modern times he could have used a term like the tongues of Vulcans to make the same point. I'm also convinced these gifts were given to spread the gospel to the world. A world of many tongues.
