So, I am still a seeker between EOC & TEC. No need to go into details in that regard again. I wanted to know - would it be frowned upon if I wanted to purchase an icon from an Orthodox church? There is one near me (not the one I was visiting) that has a store you can make an appointment with to shop I guess & I thought it might be helpful to buy one in person, I just didn't know if they would think I'm some weirdo, LOL. It seems like icons have the okay for Anglicans if I do go down that road & I would love a visual & tangible medium for prayer. If I don't go to a store, what websites are okay to go to? I saw the "Holy Trinity Store," is that one okay? Thanks y'all!

It's perfectly fine for you to purchase an Icon; Orthodox would probably just hope that it was treated correctly. Be forewarned: they multiply like crazy.

The only store I definitely warn against is "Monastery Icons." I've never heard of Holy Trinity store, but Monastery Icons are painted by a Hindu/pagan/new age type group that does not practice proper Iconography in very blatant ways, painting blasphemy.

Which one were you thinking of getting?

Thanks so much! I would want to treat the icon(s) with respect, I would probably put it(them) out of sight unless I was spending time in prayer.

I was thinking of an obvious choice, like of Jesus or Mary. The icons that always show Mary with a child - the child is Jesus, right? Pardon my ignorance but I really wasn't sure.

If this is the Trinity Store you're referring to, I would not recommend it. They have some crazy stuff. Non-Christian 'Saints' and even Pagan 'Christs'.

However, this one looks good. (If that is the Trinity Icons you're referring to.)

Eastern Christian Supply is perhaps my favorite though.
They are fantastic.
I had a problem with my card once. (My fault, I put the number in wrong) And the priest e-mailed me and we got it straightened out.

Robert Lenz the Painter I think for both of them .

I do NOT recommend searching for others by him

This is the Trinity Store mentioned above https://www.trinitystores.com

Yes, He is the painter

I posted some milder examples of his works.
Some of the other ones depicting Christ are inappropriate for here.

He even paints compainion saints to be lovers.
Such as Ss. Sergius and Bacchus:

It's absolutely fine to purchase an icon as long as you treat it with the greatest reverence and respect. Bigger churches/cathedrals will usually have a small shop where you can buy one but if you're going to buy an icon online please please please purchase it from the only store of a monastery as that is how the monks feed themselves and provide heat and water to their home.

Ah, khristosanesti, I just saw a post elsewhere and welcomed you to CF, but welcome to TAW as well! :)

Wouldn't it be great if every sentence started like that? Ah, Christ has risen!:amen:

We could take a lesson from St. Seraphim of Sarov and greet everyone with that, always. :) I've wanted to!
