Hello.

It's been a while. I hope you're all doing wonderfully!

I had a question for the ladies that are married, presumably having regular marital relationship with their hubbies, and not using contraception.

Do you guys ever enjoy an adult beverage?

I mean, maybe that's a really obvious answer, but I don't get it. You could, quite literally, always be potentially pregnant. So, does that mean you don't drink alcohol at all? Never a wine of glass after work? A beer during the game? A margarita at a fiesta? Wine at church (yeah, I realize that's probably not enough alcohol to do anything)?

Kudos to you ladies for which that's the case (because I love me some wine).

I'm legitimately curious though. :D

I'll answer for my wife. She drank in moderation through each of her pregnancies. We researched the matter ourselves and talked to our Doctor friends and learned that there is zero science out there linking moderate alcohol consumption by a pregnant mother to any negative outcomes.

Back in the 1970's, when I had my first two children, doctors told women to drink a little wine before they went to sleep if their babies kicked all night and kept them awake.

Shows how things changed.

With my oldest, I was told to introduce solids at 3 months. With my second, six months. With my third, one year...

I always know when I'm fertile. It's very unlikely that I'm going to become pregnant without knowing it or suspecting it. And I love having a drink or two once or twice a week. (Having a Bacardi Silver right now!) I questioned a pregnancy at new years, and took a pregnancy test before heading to a friend's for the night. :)

I'm also not paranoid about it. I have a half glass of wine when pregnant probably once a week.

Hm... Interesting. I suppose some women might know when they're fertile or not.

And I'm interested in the drinking while pregnant thing. Hm...

Yes. I'm also known for stealing a sip or two of my husband's beer. lol I hate it - but it's tolerable when pregnant.

There's usually always a way to know when you're fertile. Between patterns and signs, when you're well-informed, it's not difficult to figure out. And when you can't figure it out, there are many awesome instructors that have even more knowledge than the average person to help you out. Most of my friends would have 15 kids instead of about 5 if they didn't.

Yeah, I'll just take your word for it because I can guarantee there's no way to tell if I am. ;)

That's what I thought. That's also what I thought when I was 4 months post partum with my first and got pregnant with my second. ;)

After some real instruction, and reference book, and other sources of information, I now have a 3.5 and a 2.5 year old. ;) And not a 1.5 year old too.... lol

I don't drink very often because I don't particularly like it. I never drink to excess.

I don't drink at all while pregnant, but being "potentially pregnant" never stops me from having a drink. I had some vodka at a party just before I found out I was pregnant with one of my children, I think it's too early to make a difference to the developing child. It certainly didn't harm him in any way.

Word. I even tried the creighton method with a doctor's help, and couldn't determine ovulation/fertility with any certainty. My reproductive system is all confused.

But...but...it is possible!

So, I'm gathering that everyone is pretty chill about drinking during the first few weeks of being pregnant.

I'll speak for my wife, she's well past child-bearing years, but even during those years, she had an unhappy marriage, and was known for doing anything (legal)-drinking, smoking, with her friends. Yes, even during her pregnancies. Her children came out no issues.

I think there's a difference between having wine with your dinner and going bar-hopping to 1:00 and drinking the night away.

That said, at some point, you have to worry about elements of alcohol in your breast milk, at least I've been told.
