If you are ever interested in EU multiplayer, I play in some very regularly scheduled big matches and I can invite you to the relevant Steam groups.

Also I want to try Darkest hour. I want to get good at Vicky II as well as learn Hearts of Iron. That's quite an ambitious lineup for me. :p

Thanks! I'll let you know if i ever get the urge to play some EU mp! :)

I like Darkest Hour a lot. I was never really able to get into Heart of Iron 3, that's why I tried Darkest Hour.

Vicky 2 is fun, but a bit too much micro for my taste! Glad to see you like CK2. Fantastic game.

Mobile platform games have definitely come a long way and will continue to do so. I am still playing loads of Europa Universalis IV but I am getting more into Crusader Kings II because there are some absolutely incredible mods I want to get involved with and the online community is pretty solid.

I picked up EUIV over the holidays but haven't played it yet. I bought the save game converter DLC for CK2 with the express purpose of one long continuous game that began in 867 and ends in 1820-something (I forget EUIV's end date).

So far my CK2 game is around the year 1250, I've played it "round robin" style, whenever my character dies, I randomly pick another character to play from that moment on. So far I've played as both an Ethiopian duke and the king of Abyssinia, as king I conquered Nubia and Egypt and formed the Ethiopian Empire, which is still a power to reckon with two hundred years later. I played as the head of the Umayyids in Spain and attempted to push up north of the Pyrenees into southern France, the resulting Crusade was quite successful. And two orders of crusader knights appeared and with the kingdom of Leon have not only completely taken over the Iberian peninsula and reconverted it all to Catholicism, but took advantage of the crumbling Umayyid empire and have taken overeverything from Morocco to Tunis. As the Roman (Byzantine) Emperor I retook land last in southern Italy and Sicily, took over Jerusalem, and pushed north into the Caucasus Mountains, and much of what's directly north of the Black Sea, and helped convert Pagan Ruthenia to Orthodoxy, who in turn converted westward all the way to Poland and the Baltic coast. Presently Orthodox Ruthenia extends all the way into Finland and is at war with the Catholic crusading Teutonic Knights to fight over whether Finland will be Catholic or Orthodox. As Persia I converted to Zoroastrianism and single-handedly revived Zoroastrianism back into the state religion of the Persian Empire.

Currently the Mongols have appeared from the east, the Ilkhanate has swallowed up everything from the Aral Sea to the Euphrates, and to the Persian Gulf, and subsequently converted to Zoroastrianism--so Zoroastrian Mongol hordes. The Golden Horde appeared east of the Urals, spread west and have everything between the Ural mountains to Orthodox Ruthenia and Catholic Russia. Most of that land is either Jewish or Orthodox, so I'm curious to see if or to what religion the Golden Horde will convert to.

I own the Sunset Invasion DLC, so it'll be interesting when the Aztecs appear from the Atlantic and set their swords upon Western Europe. Most of western and central Europe remains embroiled in a family feud going back to Charlemagne; as such the Karling family owns everything from England and Wales to Germany, France, and Aquitaine, to Castille and Carpathia (the unification of the states of Hungary and Bohemia). If they can somehow pull together, they may survive the coming invasion from the West.

Needless to say, this is proving a most interesting game, and I'm quite excited to see it keep going in EUIV.

Vicky 2 is reeeeealllly micro and I think that's why I struggle with it. HoI is like that micro + insanity.

I'm really starting to appreciate CK2 more, that's for sure. Plus I want to play the game of thrones mod and the Avatar: Last Airbender being developed.

EU4 does end in 1820. I have an extended timeline that runs from 58 AD to 2100. I really want to play from them, but as a minor nation because the Roman Empire would be too cracked.

Your CK2 plays sound ridiculously fun. Have you played anything in Sons of Abraham yet? We should play multiplayer sometime.

That's the Timeline Extension mod right? I want to play around with that at some point. Any mod that removes wasteland/Permanent Terra Incognita is one I enjoy. I understand the reasoning behind having it, but it still doesn't bother me any less.

My steam ID has been sent in a PM.

I have Sons of Abraham, yup. The only DLC I don't have are the music packs I believe, which is okay since I play with the VIET Music mod which adds all sorts of new music to the game experience.

Speaking of Sons of Abraham, I picked my save back up and took the reigns of the Golden Horde and looked at what decisions I could make. At the very top was "Convert to Judaism", seems like my wife is Jewish so I could convert. Upon converting, my vassals still almost all loved me, and they all agreed to convert as well.

At some point apparently Bavaria converted from Catholicism to Orthodoxy, and they're slowly making headway up into central Europe. So that's interesting.

The Ethiopian Empire is in the midst of a major religious upheaval as in the north in Egypt and Sinai has become Orthodox, while the south remains staunchly Miaphysite. The Byzantines have been moving eastward from Jerusalem absorbing anything that's left in the wake of the Mongol Ilkhanate, they own Syria and are right at the border of Iraq.

History continues to bend to my absolute will! *Maniacal cackling*

I may have mentioned this before, but if not...

My first video game experience was with the Atari 800xl, and the game that I remember most clearly is Pharaoh's Curse:

Age of Empires seems much more enjoyable - my favorites being the Mongols...

Age of Empires 2 - Mongols vs other people - YouTube

And still trying to get my hands on the Star Wars fighting game..

Star Wars Masters of Teras Kasi (Darth Vader) Part 1 - YouTube

I've been in a retro mood lately. Just finished two runs of Jade Empire (one Open Palm, one Closed Fist) and just beat Thief: Deadly Shadows about 3 hours ago.

Now it's time for The Bard's Tale. Quite possibly the best fourth wall breaking in video game history. The main character and the narrator argue with each other and there's a lot of meta-gaming going on. The first time the Bard kills a wolf, a bunch of treasure pops out, a la Diablo/Baldur's Gate. The narrator expresses astonishment that all of that stuff can fit inside an animal. The Bard then tells him about the time he slew a rat and a whole treasure chest popped out. Good stuff.

Thief.... rest in piece... the new iteration they are making looks horrible.

Yesterday I purchased Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2 inspired by the amazingly bad mobile game, (yeah I know that's redundant) that EA put out.

Loved those games so much when they were state of the art.

The love for CKII makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

If you guys have a game going some time throw me a PM. I'd love to join in.

Paradox games are so good. The only issue I have with the new ones are the lack of events. That's why I am back playing Darkest Hour. There is literally thousands of events.

John 3.1 "Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."
We see that a leading figure, a priest of the jewish temple, testifies that Christ did miracles and recognizes that Gd is with Christ. There was no need for Christ to win favor with the sword nor make people believe in his Gd thru victories of bloodshed.

Another Paradoxian? Yey! I will PM you my Steam username. Like I've said, I mostly play Europa Universalis but I'd be down for a CK2 game sometime.

Yeah I wish there were more custom events but the EU4 patches have been aggressive in bugfixes, reworks and improvements so I am optimistic that things are coming.

How is Darkest Hour? I've never played.

Darkest Hour is great if you like the WW2 era. It uses the Hearts of Iron 2 engine though so the graphics might turn you off. The events allow you to take one nation a ton of different directions, especially with the Kaiserreich mod. For example, you can take the USA anywhere from a democracy, to a fascist dictatorship to a military dictatorship to a communist state, just by events. Add's a lot of replay value. Right now I am playing a campaign as the French Republic in exile in North Africa and I ended up restoring the French Empire under one of Napoleons descendants, although I kept the constitution so I have a prime minister and not absolute power. Next goal is to retake France from the Communist revolution that grips it ;)

Hey Redac, I see you have the Assassin's insignia as your avatar. What's your favorite AC game?

That seems pretty awesome! I want to get into Vicky more so that I can dive into technology and politics a little more, especially event-driven behavior.

I think one day I'd like to do an ultra grand campaign:

CK2 (Main timeline) -> EU4 -> Vicky II

Or EU4 Extended Timeline and Warring States Mod -> Vicky II

It would be so time consuming but so worth it. Did any of you tune into the developer's multiplayer stream for EU4 patch beta? It was pretty entertaining watching like 20 devs tear each other apart haha. I love those Swedes.

I haven't had a chance to play III or IV yet unfortunately. That said, II was my favorite of the ones I've played. Cool setting, good gameplay, and a nice little personal bonus for me since I've seen a lot of the locations the game happens in.

III isn't that much fun... with the previous games I enjoyed the side stuff, in III it just seems like so much busy work. Going to push through and finish it though because I really enjoy the overall storyline.
