The Word of God and following after Jesus Christ can make you feel like your taking some sort of drug or something...

"Zeal"... When you feel zeal or get zealous or excited or the Word of God gets your heart beating faster, like you have adrenaline in your veins... Anyways, the Word of God, (and trying to follow/be like Jesus in life) can get you high (potentially), and I don't know if that is a good or bad thing, it is certainly something that has to be kept "in-check" when spreading the good news or sharing the gospel or when taking a moral stance with Jesus Christ...

Or how you get excited when you get the chance to talk about God, the gospel and/or Jesus Christ and your beliefs with someone, you notice that your normally subdued talk, will get a little louder and quicker... Is this because it is working on you like a drug and getting you "high"? If so, what should we do or say about this?

In the Gnostic gospels it hint's at the idea of partaking of the Word can get you "intoxicated", and says "When they shake off their wine, they will repent." Can the cup of wine representing Jesus blood, and I also believe the cup full of the anger of Babylon's (harlot's) fornication, and the "cup" full of the wine of the anger of the wrath of God, the "cup" Jesus said we would have to drink from in rememberance of him, can this be the Word intoxicating us and if so, how should we handle it?

Does anyone know/feel what I'm talking about? Are we all "drug users" when it comes to the Word of God, the good news, the gospel, following Jesus Christ?

I agree. When I first got born again it was like an explosion went off.....I was so excited to believe and know by faith that there was and is a afterlife. This continued for two years until I got struck with the Obsessive thoughts about the Final Judgment....Than it was a struggle and nothing but hardship......I have been given a door that Jesus opened and You have to not be around unbelievers because they will bring you down....Scripture holds true to that because I didn't listen I suffered many years being around people who where false witnesses of God saying they know Him but, there hearts where far from Him because of there actions. When God calls you to be Born Again......You get set on fire...and there is no high like it....

why bother with the gnostic gospels ? they are not inculded in the bible for good reason .

- the experiences you are talking about ..i like to refer to them as my flesh body not being accustomed to the power of the presence of the Holy Spirit flowing in me /through me .

much like ones body can have minute volatage floe thru it and not notice ..up the voltage and you will quiver shake and go high enough, you will fry .

thats just an analogy of course ..but the effect his presnce has on my body is inconsequential as "that" is not his purpose , his purpoase is that I be bold and speak the Gospel and listen and obey him and HE transforms my heart .

if we seek the manifestations because they feel good , we risk walking in carnality and sensuality ( acting or seeking that which physicals "feels good" ..for the sake of the good feeling .. that can become idolatry because in so doing we seek the created rather then the creator .

old English used the term quickening ... to take that which is dead and essentially speed it up to live again ..sort of lol ,that's a rather loose explanation.
but it is quite good as an analogy of the increased heart rate etc .

KNOWLEDGE BOMB replies:

Now why would the word be something you'd have to repent over?

Gnostic gospels are false to begin with and will leave you in confusion.....

The last things about the blood are a bit confusing the way it's worded

Getting carried away by zeal, and getting overly excited to the point to where you are sometimes "overwhelmed with astonishment" at the words you speak when you talk about God, especially if it start's to draw a crowd, and your focus shifts from pleasing Jesus, to pleasing the crowd (audience) as Peter and all those with him got astonished at the huge catch of fish at Jesus bidding, and they then tried to "take them all" in, as some preacher's do with their fish, but the boats began to sink (when they did this) (Luke 5:4-11)

Peter repented. Also possibly get to swept up in emotionalism, but I don't know.

My conversion to Christ lead me to preach to anybody and everybody. Not for fame or money but because I wanted them to experience the life changing event for themselves. As I grew and the hardships overwhelmed me I stopped. I don't know if Jesus was closing a door for another one to be opened later but I want to clarify that it wasn't something I was getting high off of. It drove me to preach the Word to every living creature...
