There are those Christians who talk too little, in this, they prevent their usefulness! But than there are those who talk too much and in so doing spoil their influence!
Rev.9:1 speaks of a star (Satan) falling from heaven unto the earth who was given the key of the bottomless pit. The Greek word for key here is a symbol for power and authority. With this authority given this falling star (Satan) shall release demon spirits from the bottomless pit. There shall arise from the pit, smoke as a great furnace, indicating that fire is present in the pit, and out of the smoke came locusts upon the earth and they had power as scorpions.
Power meaning strength, force and efficiency.
Prov.30:27, Solomon wrote speaking of literal locusts, The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands. Yet in Revelation we read,
Rev.9:11, And they (the Locusts of the bottomless pit) had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
Apollyon in Greek translates, The destroyer.
What is meant by the bottomless pit?
Specifically it is speaking of Tartarus, and also, that part of the deep in which the souls of the wicked are to be confined. Luke 8:31, "They = (devils) besought Him = (Jesus) that He would not command them to go out into the deep (the bottomless pit.)" Rev.9:2-11, "They had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit." Rev.17:8, 20:1-3, "Cast him = (Satan) into the bottomless pit." 2 Pet.2:4, "If God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell (bottomless pit.)"
These were not ordinary locusts such as those that eat vegetation. These are commanded to hurt men, men who do NOT Have the seal of God in their foreheads (meaning the 144,000.) This gives further evidence that the church has been removed from the earth.
We may ask the question, What are these locusts? Scripture appears to be describing fallen demons, those who are so wicked they have been kept under lock and key by God since their fall from heaven. But now they are to be released for the sole purpose of tormenting those who do not have the mark of God on their forehead.
The time given to these stinging locusts will be five months. The Lord has limited; put brackets around the time He will allow these demons to accomplish their mission, showing He alone rules and reigns. And Men shall seek death, but shall not find it.
Supernatural creatures compared to horses prepared for battle. This description seems to be taken for Joel 2:4, The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses, horses protected by breastplates of iron.
Scripture seems to indicate that there will be multitudes of them released from hell. They were given crowns of gold, meaning they shall have a counterfeit authority to rule over mankind. Their faces were those of men meaning they will appear to have great wisdom, keenness, understanding and judgment, but in truth will have the spirit of a devil in them.
They had hair like a woman appearing to have the tenderness of a woman, but in reality cruel and without mercy. They will come upon the world with a loud noise as an army on the attack.
This picture described by John is one painted of Satan and his demons awesome supernatural power over all those who are not in Jesus Christ.
