In my current church-search, I decided to go to morning services at a local Lutheran church. I was surprised at how similar it was to the Catholic services I went to as a kid. The structure of the proceedings, the similar communion, similar clothing worn by the leaders, even some people making the sign of the cross. So far as I can tell, Lutherans are much less dogmatic than Catholics, and that's good. The people were friendly, and one of them is a co-worker of mine who's been there for some time.

Assembly of God church this weekend.

I don't quite get what you mean about Catholics being more dogmatic than Lutherans? I've known Roman Catholics who were quite liberal and didn't give a hoot about their Church's official teaching. And more conservative Lutherans and much more dogmatic than any other branch of protestantism. The book of Concord is far more extensive and detailed than any document from Catholic church council history and is far more specific in clarifying what it means (including Vatican II). Even the most liberal ECLA church, still holds to many doctrines that would freak out the average american professing christian.

Many Lutherans are proudly embrace their heritage as part of the catholic church, so we use similar forms to the rest of the church However, it is gong to vary quite a bit depending at congregation. It's not like the RCC, EO or even the Anglicans were every church of the denomination is going to be using the exact same liturgy.

As I said in another thread, Charismaticism/Pentecostalism are pretty much antithetical to Lutheranism. Pentecostals are totally focused on the inward-out, on the subjective, on the Christian. Lutheranism is totally focused on the outward-in, on the objective, on Christ.

It'll be a good contrast then.;)

The average American professing Christian is a pretty big group of people that hardly think the same.

And for that matter why does it have to be an American professing Christian? One thing that always gets me is many American protestants seem to be rather clueless as to Christianity as a world religion. They seem to think, act and behave as though Christianity where invented by Billy Graham in the 1950's.
