Light without the sun?

So someone at my church said that even if the sun would like be destroyed, there wont be total darkness because God is light, now I do not know if he meant something we can see. But is this true? Is it true that Gods light will shine when there is no sun?

I'm not really answering "what if the sun were destroyed" but as far as God being light ...

Rev 22: 5 There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever. (NKJV)

So yes, from Scripture, plainly God can give light.

There is also the account of Creation, where the first thing God said in the Bible was "Let there be light" and yet the sun, moon, and other stars were not created until later.

It would be interesting to know when Jesus returns and reveals to us that God's Light would replace the darkness of the universe, and that the sun would transform into a floating inactive star like desert-covered planet Mars:.
The safe benefits of God's Light should obviously be radiation-free, no summer heatwave or winter freezing temperatures so that we can relax outdoors as long as we like, that's if such lengthy relaxation periods are permitted by our future-coming global ruler Jesus Christ:.
With all of our millions of prayer requests, Jesus being our spiritual partner inside our hearts, has most probably already decided what choices are permitted or not, and we have to stay strong in Faith until he returns to see whether or not he has approved each of our requests or not:.
For example, I requested that seagulls and other birds such as crows and sparrows be transferred to another Earth planet for animals only, that way when I relax outdoors, I don't expect any bird stains on my home property or on myself .;'*';.

So is it fair to assume that light originated from some other source?

Light can originate from some source other than the sun? Of course.

We even have examples in bioluminescence, and electrical light such as lightning strikes and our own electric lights, fire, and so on. The sun is not the only source of light - combustion is not even the only source of light.

That depends on who you ask. There are a number of theories, of course.

As a Christian, the answer is that, in some way or another, God created the sun and all other things that are in existence. The means by which He did so are a matter of great debate.

What I think is fascinating is the nature of light itself. The first time I actually started to grasp the implications of the double-slit experiment and the dual nature of light, it was one of those boom-mind-blown moments lol.

For anyone not familiar with it, this is a decent introduction to it ... it touches upon some topics that it doesn't explain in great depth, but it introduces a person to implications and questions the experiment raises. It's only 5 min :) ---

Video is blocked to me for some reason, but I'll try to load it on something else.

I STILL am not sure if I've really wrapped my mind around the dual nature of light. It's amazing, isn't it???

Aw that sucks ... hopefully it will load on something else. It's got like 4mil views, so it's a pretty well referenced video :)

And yeah ... light is insane. Well, anything that can be put in a state of superposition is insane in my book. Just when I thought I could wrap my head around a bit of it, I was introduced to the delayed choice quantum eraser lol ..... *drools* lol ....

Do you have any specific belief about creation, time, method, etc.?

Well ... I was trained in evolution and all that goes along with it. I discovered problems in that, and went to the opposite "extreme", young earth creationism, and checked those ideas. I found a lot plausible, and some good arguments, as well as some poor science. Then I started checking out other ideas.

To be honest, there's not a single model I've yet found that didn't have problems. I'm currently not 100% convinced of ANYthing, except that I believe what God says.

But I have zero need anymore to make my beliefs "fit" evolution, since to be honest, it's one of the more problematic theories, IMO.

And eventually, I just found much more important things to study.

If I HAD to choose a box to check- off in a list or something, I'd probably lean more toward believing the earth and the universe are probably older, and God did create what Genesis describes in a literal sense. The idea that the earth was "without form and made void" and that Adam and Eve were told to "replenish" the Earth make sense to me. I think it's entirely possible something happened between the time God got started and the events describing most of the creation.

After all, Genesis doesn't tell us when the angels were created. I used to assume it was at the time when He made the sun, moon, stars, but in Job 38 God says

4"Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell Me, if you have understanding,

7 When the morning stars sang together
And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

So it seems likely the angels were created BEFORE God started to form the earth. But Genesis makes no mention of this. What else might it not mention?

Anyway, I don't have all the answers. I seriously doubt anyone does, whether they lean toward science or Biblical literalism or whatever.

One thing advanced sciences usually teaches us, if we are honest enough with ourselves to admit it, is that the more we learn, the more we often realize we don't know.

And two things my faith has taught me are that what God says is true (and if the Genesis account IS metaphorical, that doesn't make it a lie), and that I don't have to have all the answers and interpretations "right".
