Yeah, I did wonder about the thread title, since the dude has a wife and all...
Kluwe has children with his wife as well.

Ex-Viking Chris Kluwe to meet with investigators

By Chris Tomasson

Former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe will meet Saturday with the two lawyers investigating his allegations that assistant coach Mike Priefer made homophobic comments in front of players and that the team released Kluwe in 2013 for his outspoken views on same-sex marriage.
Kluwe's lawyer, Clayton Halunen, expects the meeting in Minneapolis to last between four and eight hours.

It's not *impossible* for Kluwe to be gay, but I would bet serious money that he's not. He seems like the type who would be "out and proud" if he were.

Agreed. While I have no doubt that there are many gay men who married women, they are usually not the sort to be so outspoken about supporting gay rights.

Kluwe is the flipside of the Duck Dynasty coin. Companies involved in pro sports and television are in the entertainment business, not in the business of alienating sponsors with controversial and outspoken stances.

I would agree.

If you want to go public with certain stances, wait until you are not under contract in the entertainment business.

Also, if he kicked better, maybe he doesn't get released.

True,

In pro sports if you do it well enough you don't get released, or if you do you get picked up fast. But if you are 'average' or below you likely do not get picked up if you show any problems.

In all fairness to Kluwe, according to him, he did have permission so long as he did it while NOT representing the team.

Of course, that begs the question of when is he NOT representing the team?

Also, if he kicked better, maybe he doesn't get released.

Precisely. It's not like he was some star player on the team, and even being a star player is not necessarily a guarantee of staying on the team.

OK, I'm going to run the risk of offending some people, but, really, he's a kicker. Aren't they all gay?

He's not. But overall, I'd say that kickers aren't any more likely to be gay than any other position. I mean, the kickers aren't the one's spending most of their time on the field groping other men...

Spoken by someone who's never played the game, and doesn't get the joke.

No, I got your joke, don't need to have played the game to do so. Perhaps you didn't get mine. I mean two guys grabbing at each other, feeling their muscles, before one embraces the other and they fall to the ground together rolling in each others arms...

Statement From The Vikings Regarding Chris Kluwe

Posted Jan 2, 2014

The Minnesota Vikings were made aware of Chris Kluwe’s allegations for the first time today. We take them very seriously and will thoroughly review this matter.
As an organization, the Vikings consistently strive to create a supportive, respectful and accepting environment for all of our players, coaches and front office personnel. We do not tolerate discrimination at any level. The team has long respected our players’ and associates’ individual rights, and, as Chris specifically stated, Vikings ownership supports and promotes tolerance, including on the subject of marriage equality. Because he was identified with the Vikings, Chris was asked to be respectful while expressing his opinions. Team ownership and management also repeatedly emphasized to Chris that the Vikings would not impinge on his right to express his views.
Any notion that Chris was released from our football team due to his stance on marriage equality is entirely inaccurate and inconsistent with team policy. Chris was released strictly based on his football performance.
We will have further comment at the appropriate time.
