No ma'am, when I sinned prior to salvation I was not embarrassed because I knew what I was willfully doing. Of course I have been busted for lying and much more but I wasn't ashamed because I knew I was doing and the risks of getting caught. I have always owned up to my sins in a willfull manner just as I sinned willfully knowing the consequence. I claimed christ at salvation as boldly as I sinned before salvation. Why should I have been embarrassed of getting caugyt when I knew the consequence before doing it, that's hypocritical as a sinner and a christian. Show me in scripture an embarrassed believer, and don' t use Nicodemis because he wasn't embarrassed about Christ but at what he would lose if his Pharisees friends caught him going to Christ

In churches all across the world, many sunday morning services close with the same ending: "with every head bowed, and every closed". Why do pastors do this?
Really? I don't think most churches do. At least, not in the UK. So, no, it doesn't bother me.

In my church (and others that I have been to), we usually end by saying a benediction to each other, with our eyes open so that we can see each other and smile!

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
be with us all,
now and evermore.
Amen.

Actually, Jesus did die with a lot of eyes closed. To this day the Jews deny Him as Messiah.
Peter WAS embarrassed and denied that he even knew Jesus. - Mark 14:66-72
Judas hung himself - Matthew 27:5
S/Paul killed Christians and was "trembling and astonished" when he first heard Jesus calling - Acts 9:6

To answer your question:

You've never been busted in a lie and felt embarrassed?
You've never done something and felt bad upon reflection?
You have never sinned and felt bad?
I have willfully sinned and was embarrassed in the situation, and still sinned anyway. To this day, I feel embarrassed that I was so wrong and so rebellious.

The question, during service, and the command to keep our heads bowed, and eyes closed, isn't because Jesus would be ashamed. He already knows what we did. He knew I was gonna sin before He formed the Universe. It's because we are ashamed of our own sin that we close our eyes and bow our heads. We afford that comfort to those that do, in that moment, recognize that they are sinners in need of a Savior.
People don't want to be judged. The thinking here is that if no one is looking, it makes it easier to raise their hand. Kinda' like when you see posters for lost articles that say "Please return, no questions asked"

One isn't saved when they raise their hand, they are saved when they accept Jesus as their Savior.
This usually takes place after the service, when someone opens a Bible with the one who raised their hand. Then, usually the next service, or before the end of the current service, and announcement is made that the person who raised their hand has accepted Jesus as their Savior. They are then welcomed into the family of God.
FTR: I've never seen a pastor in an IBC call the people who raise their hands to come to the alter for salvation. I have, however, seen it in a Pentecostal church.
Usually the alter call is for the saved, born again, Christian. It's usually to repent of something that happened either during the week, or something that was brought to mind during the service's message or both. (1 John 1:9 and Romans 13:11-14)
One is not required to go to the alter to repent, this can be done while standing there, or at home. The idea is to take care of business with the LORD while it's still fresh on your mind and heart.
I hope this was helpful :)

If i could correct one thing you said, i don't think Peter was embarrassed but I think he feared for his life.

I think he feared for his life as well. I think he was embarrassed because he cussed at the girl, as noted in verse 71 right after he was outed, in verse 70, for his accent and manner of speech.

I have known many who feel shy of public speaking who will not shy away from their convictions in a small group or with individuals. Perhaps the fear is simply self-consciousness in a large group.

Perhaps the practice is in order to remove any possible hindrance.

Having said that, I had no problem with publicly announcing it myself.

Having said that, I do not require my own confidences of other people.

Having said THAT, perhaps it is a concern for them that we don't need to be concerned about, or may even be detrimental. Perhaps if we taught new believers from the beginning the importance of professing what one believes, when they find themselves surrounded by fellow workers who espouse the current trend of endorsing LGBT behavior as normal, they won't be so strongly tempted to "be embarrassed" for taking a scriptural stand on that either.

Just a thought,

H.
