Therein lies the issue. We Muslims do speak out, but how can you speak out when it falls on deaf ears. The media doesn't give us fair airplay with the nutjobs in our mix and Conservative Christians do not wanna hear about it either. Let's also not forget that if the government actually allowed the public to know how truly peaceful Muslims are, they wouldn't have a case when it came to all these security measures and conflicts we have been involved in for big business.
I would not say they are nut jobs, but I will say that they are not treating the religion fairly. The best thing Muslims can do is show by their actions AND words use a mixture of both you cannot control what others do you CAN control how you behave and nut jobs you are as bad as they are.

It only takes a small lunatic fringe to make security measures a necessity, but we certainly wouldn't have had any reason to invade Iraq. Saddam Hussein an Islamist terrorist? Give me a break! He was a petty dictator who could care less about religion, just like Anwar Saddat.

(Should we tell Washington that the Baath Party was founded by a Christian?)

But hey, if you can stick everyone into a single category decisions are easy.

Of course, that is the definition of prejudice and bigotry.

Uh, what practice are we talking about here?
The practice of putting all people in one group such as the idea that ALL Muslims are the same as the ones that do the attacks.

Oh yeah, of course.

According to the Qur'an prejudice was Satan's original sin.

He refused to bow down to Adam because Adam was made of clay and he was made of fire.

I am one of those Conservative Nutjobs that you speak of. True story. I'm still not Politically Correct after all of these years either.
With that said, while in college, I did two research papers on Islam. One was from a historical perspective and the other was a compare and contrast perspective. I chose that subject because I worked in a maximum security jail at the time and a lot of inmates convert to Islam, albeit it was the Nation of Islam (hence the compare and contrast) but Islam none the less.
I see the draw. It's a very structured religion. It reminds me of the Sacramental Churches in Christianity. Also, there are not too many Caucasian Muslims, especially in the NOI. Which is a plus in jail.
I've had Islamic nursing students. Most were very devout. One, I believe, did so to rebel against her Roman Catholic mother. She, in particular, would complain about her strict husband. I reminded her that this is the lifestyle she chose and as a citizen of the USA, she can un-choose this, but marriage is a serious commitment not to be entered into lightly.
There is a vast difference between American Islam and Middle Eastern Islam. I do feel that the Middle Eastern Islamist are more orthodox in their beliefs. I don't think that my converted nursing student could leave her husband so easily as she can here, in the USA. I don't even think she would be allowed to be in nursing school in a lot of Middle Eastern countries.
I don't think the incidences that take place in the Middle East and portrayed on the news are few and far between, I think they are coming with an increased frequency. Either that or, what once was taboo to report is no longer taboo and, thus, the frequency hasn't changed.
We do have better access to news than we have had before. We're no longer tied to the networks, CNN, Fox or MSNBC. There are far more reliable news sources out there that aren't afraid to report the news as it happens or how it happened. Do you know that last week was the first time that I've heard that Lara Logan was gang raped, in Egypt, over two years ago by Momin Muslims? Perhaps is was mentioned on TV news, that she was raped, but it certainly wasn't hammered like the Colorado Shooting was. I musta' missed it. However, I'm fairly news savvy, especially world news. So, when I heard that she was gang raped, imagine my surprise when I learned that it was 2 years ago in Egypt by Muslims as part of their celebration of the deposing Hosni Mubarak. I do know that Islam denounces rape of other Muslims, however, if the person is considered kafir/infidel it's okay.
Can you provide the link to the post where you denounced this gang rape of Lara Logan?
Do you denounce the attack in Benghazi? Can you provide me a link to the post where you denounced this too?
I thank you in advance :)

That still does not mean that you treat ALL Muslims the same way. While I personally do not know any Muslims in "real life" I will judge them based on them and NOT the green moon not what people somewhere else do. I am in the south and we have many blacks that to THIS day seem to feel that we whites owe them something. Now am I saying that what whites did in the past was right NO, BUT slavery has long since ended and even the Jim Crow laws are several decades removed now. I however, do not see a black and assume that he or she is racist towards me. I have worked with blacks in the past and while I may have disagreed with a particular person her skin color had NOTHING to do with it. I have even been abused by a black do I judge all blacks by what T did to me over several months nope I do not.

Waaaay back, when Jesus fed the masses on a beach and I was in nursing school, I learned in psychology to be aware of people who use absolutes. ;)
What I've learned from being a nurse [and/or living on this planet for a long time] is that douch-edness transcends color, race, religion and sexual preference. God says, in 1 Samuel 16:7, to Samuel to not look on the outside of a person, but the inside. I used to tell my nursing students that we're all pink on the inside. My classroom, BTW, was in a very poor part of town. I was the minority in my classroom. And jail? Please! name one jail that has more Caucasian people than others.
I have blood relatives that span all skin colors ... except Asian, that I know of, unless you count the Mongolian of my Italian grandmother. My sister is black, my nieces and nephews are Latino. Which is probably why I worked well in the jobs that I've had. I don't look at people the way other people look at people.
With all of that said, I will not have myself, or others, get lumped into a group of "Conservative Nutjobs" (which is pretty prejudicial for someone bemoaning the prejudice of others) because I refuse to blindly go along with the notion that just because one poster here says that he denounces radical Islam, that ALL Islamists are peace loving when, clearly, current events prove otherwise. [Yes, this is considered a run on sentence, but have you read Esther 8:9?]
I don't see where I lumped anyone into any one category. I just asked for the post showing that he denounces what he says he denounces. Or, is walking your talk no longer allowed here? I get that I've been away for a while and things have changed, but have they changed THAT much?

Oh I thought you meant that you were one of those Nutjobs meaning that you did view them all that way, I am sorry I misunderstood you in such a way. Yes, you are right I, nor anyone else I would hope is saying that ALL Muslims do not support the actions of those people, but it seems to have been implied that all Muslims DO support it which is false. You would actually probably be shocked at the percentage of people in England and France that are Muslim. While there HAVE been attacks we do not hear much about attacks there and/or in Deerborn Mu outside of motor city they are known for their high percentage of Muslim population for this country.

Actually, I'm not shocked, but only because I did the research, long ago. ;)
Antioch, where they were called Christians first, is in Turkey. Turkey is mostly Muslim now.
And ... by today's standards ... I am a Conservative Nutjob.
I choose to see myself as discerning. Not everything in life is so cut and dry, or black and white if you will. There are radical Islamists on this planet, there is no denying this. They are mostly in the Middle East. But I live within 50 miles of Lackawanna, NY and Toronto Canada of which also have high Muslim populations. [Which are about 5 hours from Dearborn, MI] Google/search (Highlight either, right click, and choose your search mode preference) The Lackawanna 6 and Terrorist Attempt to blow up train bridge. The threat is very real, just not very well publicized.
Christians are being persecuted. Google/search Prince Charles statement on persecuted Christians in the Middle East to see what he just said, yesterday 12/17/13, about the subject. I don't say this to be hateful. I say this because it's the truth. I'm not a fear monger. I've worked with rapists, murderers and pedophiles for a lot of my nursing career. Most people are okay to deal with, even murderers. If you go around treating people like jerks, guess what? You're gonna get treated like a jerk. For the most part, anyway. This goes for people of every race, religion and creed, not just Muslim people. But this doesn't give radical Muslims a pass because it isn't PC to call them out.

I am an all or nothing type person as my username implies, but I have developed the view that I judge you based on you and NOTHING else not your skin color, not your religion not even the family you come from. I will treat you with respect unless and until you AS A PERSON prove that you cannot be trusted or will not treat me properly.

Is it really fair for you to pick out two issues (one of which you hadn't even heard of before now) and ask our Muslim friend to provide evidence that he personally condemned these two actions. Can you show me links to your posts where you condemned those who tried to prevent Muslims from building that mosque in New York? Do you have links to posts where you condemned the attacks on the mosque being built in Nashville, TN?

I've been gone longer than you've been here
And, Yes! I did pick those 2 issues because of the very fact that I haven't heard of it before now. I watch, read, eat, drink and sleep news. I find it alarming that an American gets gang raped and it's bigger news now that she's been let go by CBS, because she didn't walk lock step with their Liberal agenda.
And Benghazi because, they're still covering up the facts about this attack. I'm not the one saying that
We Muslims do speak out
All I asked was - where?

I recall it getting a lot of publicity at the time.

And Benghazi because, they're still covering up the facts about this attack.

Actually most of the evidence of a so-called cover-up proved to be bogus.
