2 Peter KJV

2:1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

"Have done, then, with all evil and deceit, all pretence and jealousy and slander. You are babies, new-born in God's family, and you should be crying out for unadulterated spiritual milk to make you grow up to salvation! And so you will, if you have already tasted the goodness of the Lord." JBP

Gerry, through study this week, these are some passages that spoke to my heart. I am sharing it with everyone here. In prayer to God it has become clear, I am seeking fellowship of other Christians, which I don't want to diminish the need for at all. But what I really need to be concentrating on is seeking fellowship with God. The rest will come.

Acts 18;5

But when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul began devoting himself completely to the word, solemnly testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.

In the face of adversary, devote yourself to God's word, and testify of Jesus' gift to us.

Psalms 119:103-105
103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Seek God's word to guild my walk, His word will light the way.

Psalms 119:11
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

ingest God's word into your heart to keep you from trouble.

Amen! To desire His Word, is to desire getting to know Him by learning what He has already said to us :)

What I have noticed, right here at CF is so many people "seeking" God's will regarding a particular matter, when all the need do is open His Word and read what He has written on that very subject. Still some others read that and then ask advice from others about it. Well, ya know, it is far too simple I guess. When Jesus said to love one another He meant for us to love one another. Simple. When Jesus said He has chosen us to bear fruit, He means He has chosen us to bear fruit. ALL of us. It is plain. Yet people say, "Well God didn't call me to witness or to tell others about Jesus, all I can do is pray." Well no sorry! John 15:16 is very clear!

And so you are very very right. The way we get to know Him is to read what He has written for us, and He is not at all tricky nor prone to unclear double talk. He states it, clearly, simply, and leaves us with no doubt of His intent.

Amen Reeann! Here is one of the many verses that back up what you say about fellowship:

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

It is clear, we cannot walk in His Light without having fellowship with Him. Indeed that is how we have fellowship with Him. And if we have fellowship with Him we automatically have fellowship with one another.

As you say, we tend to get it backwards. We seek fellowship with one another, thinking in that way we will have fellowship with Him. But that is the cart in front of the horse.
