How did you become a christian?

For me, it was when college life was interrupted. I looked for work for months (as is the joy for paying out of pocket alone for college) but couldn't find any and got very few interviews, which led to me eventually running out of money and not being able to go back. Someone who God put into my life right after I graduated high school had mercy on me and gave me a job even though I bombed the interview. I applied to a ton of places and even after I got hired no other place that I applied to called for an interview, so I know God purposely made this the only path I could take (even though my mom insists it was she who made me take the job, but she only had a small part in it). Ended up working in a hospital surrounded by Christian employees, the Bible, and I see or hear about someone dying almost everyday (I'm janitorial staff so I have the pleasure of cleaning the hospital rooms right after they remove a deceased and the bed is still warm...*ack*). I figured out what was going on and accepted Christ's invitation into the Kingdom. Afterward I realized how many times before that God had been calling me and was so happy I accepted this time, because it could have been the last chance for me...scary thought!

Hello everybody :)

My story is a little different from yours ^^
I was baptized when I was a baby at a Catholic church, and I had some "catechism" classes until 11 years old. Then, I progressively moved away from religion and became an "atheist". I didn't believe in God at all. May God forgive me for that.

Until recently (2 years ago), I didn't thought much about religion. But then I met muslim people online and they told me about the Koran and their prophet. I thought maybe they were right, what they said made sense but there was something that made me doubt. They all told me that the Bible was not true and so the prophet Muhamad came with the Koran to re-establish the truth. That's why I started to read the Bible, I wanted to see if they were right and I also wanted to prove them that they were wrong (I don't know why I wanted to show them that, as I didn't believe in anything)...

So I started to read the Bible and the New Testament really touched my heart. I'm still not sure yet, I'm searching answers in the Bible but I feel that I found the truth through Jesus. I had a dream in which Jesus told me that the Bible was special... So I need to find why he said that ^^ I hope I'll find the answer.

Have a good day / evening (it's 10pm in France ^^)

Agnostic, raised in liberal mainline churches all my life, my dad was a true believer--I thought he was nuts and using his faith as a crutch.

Suffered from horrific depression in my teens and twenties. Never once thought about God, even in my despair. Never once even crossed my mind, even when I was suicidal.

One time I got really bad, and my dad threw me a lifeline--Jesus. Ever since I said that prayer I have believed in the triune God without any doubt, but SO much still puzzled me(can I actually do this? Is God good?). Never doubted existence after that, and I was very interested in God things from then on, BUT my progress has been slowed by my depression/reluctance to believe the Bible.

God has been extraordinarily patient with my impatience and willfulness. Still very much a work in progress, many years later, the victories have come slow, but they are sweet!

Thank you for sharing your story Aliya! It was inspiring to hear that the Bible spoke to you in that way. Sometimes it can be hard to understand and people get caught up in arguments about interpretations and details. But the message of the Gospel is simple and very good news for those who have an open mind to hear it.

Very wise perspective you have there. Many people expect progress and everything good to happen overnight. Acknowledging God's patience, being patient ourselves, and rejoicing in the little victories is a good lesson for all of us!

It's funny my story looks a little like yours. I was baptized catholic when I was a baby, but never went to catechism and went only a few times to the mass with my grandma when I was kid. I was never a believer or knew anything about christianity or religion in general for that matter.

A couple years ago I started to search a little about spirituality and found buddhism, which I really liked, and I still believe in some of their beliefs like rebirth (sorry). But I needed more. I think I was searching something to help me with depression and loneliness. I began to look and read about christianity. I never liked or agreed with the Catholic church, hence why I never gave second thoughts about religion before, I thought that was all there was to it, but then I discovered other forms of christianity which were more to my liking. I believe in Protestantism now but in France Catholicism is the most important religion, then Islam, so I never knew about it before this last year.

A year ago, I had a dream in which Jesus visited me and shook me up, literally. It was like He was telling to wake up, come to my senses, and follow Him. After that I started praying about something and the answer came right away. That's when I truly believed in God I think. He showed me He truly existed.

Of course, after all that, I started reading the Bible, and I love the message I've found in it. I've heard bad things about the Bible, how it didn't make any sense or that it was false, but for me, it is wonderful. I think it answers a lot of the questions we can have about the meaning of life.

Don't be sorry, God made you free :)
I'm always happy to see stories that look like mine ^,^ and it is interesting to see each other's experience and how we became Christians. The Bible is really wonderful. :)

Edit: I forgot to ask you (ma compatriote ^^), have you thought about Islam ? And what led you to buddhism ? What did you like about it ?

Nice to meet you :)

I don't know much about Islam. I've seen a documentary about it and it seems interesting but it doesn't appeal to me. Maybe I'll try to read more about it later on.
I've heard about buddhism by watching the buddhist TV program on Sunday mornings. I find their beliefs very interesting and very true so I started reading a lot. I still believe in a lot of the teachings. It's more like a philosophy rather than a religion, and I actually think that buddhism and christianity go well together. I think it can be helpful to people even those who consider themselves not religious or those who come from a different religious background.
