No, quite wrong. Even though the vast majority of posts have utterly nothing to do with my OP, this thread does support my longstanding thesis that there is NO thread on CF, whether it be about the nature of the Trinity or the recipe for pumpkin cupcakes, that doesn't rapidly descend into complete inanity in the hands of the wacko American "Christians" who dominate CF.

And I suspect that you knew, going in, that the more offensive you were, the more provocative your post would be. I also know that the AFA is a pre-selected target of the Far Left, so I'm not surprised that this happens to be the one target--out of hundreds of other examples that could have been cited--that you chose to focus on.

"Provocative, vulgar and vicious"? Really? You must live in a Victorian cocoon of some sort. AFA was my "pre-selected target" because I am a regular AFA listener and was (1) astounded that this much insane venom would spew forth in the space of 45 minutes; (2) quite amused that the callers were indeed almost uniformly young women from the Deep South who were quite obviously Rather Stupid, yet Fischer reacted to and expanded upon their gibberish as though they were sages; and (3) disappointed that an ostensibly Christian network like AFA gives a forum to a troglodyte like Fischer. I am pleased, however, that you acknowledge that there were hundreds of other examples I could have chosen!

To Gospel Guy: I am not saying that Christians in America are going to hell. My reference to American "Christianity" in quotes is meant to convey that (1) I will still call right-wing, narrow-minded, hate-mongering Christianity of Fischer's sort "Christianity" because only God can determine who truly qualifies as a Christian, but (2) I will put this sort of "Christianity" in quotes because it appears to me to be a complete perversion of everything Jesus taught.

To both Albion and Gospel Guy: Sweeties, I am a litigation and appellate lawyer of 30+ years experience. I make my living reducing the arguments of people who disagree with me to rubble. If you think I am "upset" at controversy on CF, please disabuse yourself of the notion. CF is my amusement in my spare time. But the sad reality is, 95% of the threads on this "Christian" site, including those in which I do not participate at all and which concern topics that one would hardly think controversial enough even to be interesting, do indeed quickly descend into fussin' and feudin', sniping, accusations and hurt feelings. I just occasionally do my little bit to prod things along.

One of my fondest memories from CF is of a thread where a woman gave some details of her cat's health and asked whether others thought it was time to put the cat to sleep. Seems rather innocuous, one might think. With very little help from me, however, that thread descended into one of the all-time great verbal bloodbaths.

I almost hate to burst your bubble, Gospel Guy, because you are such fun, but in fact I am almost rabidly anti-abortion but at the same time fully supportive of gay rights. God gave women the ability to avoid unwanted contraception (at least in 99% of instances), but he made a fair segment of humanity and a fair segment of the animal kingdom homosexual whether they want to be or not. My other positions on social issues are likewise a mixture of conservative, moderate and liberal. I believe the Bible is about 60% primitive hogwash, 20% demented ravings, and 20% profound historical and spiritual truth. Politically, I have come to dislike Obama almost as much as I came to dislike George W. Bush, having foolishly voted for both of them (in different elections, I hasten to add). Unlike some -- to wit, thee and Albion -- I try to hold rational, principled positions based upon my own research and observation and refuse to be pigeonholed into any knee-jerk right-wing or left-wing mindset as though I were some serf obligated to obey the pronouncements of my Right-Wing or Left-Wing Masters. My "position concerning the way our society is going" is pretty much along the lines of what the Bible predicts: From both the extreme left and right and everywhere in-between, our world is descending into the toilet at an ever-escalating pace and there is no hope, short of the Second Coming, for things to get any better. I always say that I am delighted to be 64 years old and not 6.4 years old, because I don't want to be here in 50 years (and pity those who will be). My posts -- not a word of which you have even vaguely understood, I realize -- were merely highlighting one example of this descent into the toilet under the banner of "Christianity," which makes the example a particularly unfortunate one.
