I am looking for a non-denominational church that allows infant baptism. It's a very important issue for me and definitely a deal-breaker. I know many other churches (Presbyterian, Lutheran, Catholic, EO) do infant baptism, but I would really like to avoid the denominational hierarchy if possible. Any suggestions on how I can find one?

I really don't want to get into it since it's such a controversial topic, but basically, the reason it's important is because: 1.) It's the way people are brought into Christ's community. 2.) It's the way the Christian church has always done it. 3.) It's the way the Apostles did it.

Obviously many will disagree with at least two of those points, but that's why it is important to me. Children should be brought into Christ's community.

Congregationalist Church practice paedobaptism and they're pretty much non-denominational I think. UCC is part of this movement, why not join them?

Yes you are right...but the UCC is very far on the other end of the theological spectrum unfortunately. I was hoping for something more orthodox (at least more than the UCC).

There are Congregational Church that are not UCC nor on the "wrong" end of the theological spectrum. Not too sure on it myself, but... Hmm...

Have you tried the "Semper Reformanda" subforum of this forum?

I have not....That's a good idea though. I will check that out.

Also, just to be clear, I wasn't trying to offend anyone in the UCC by saying they are on the "wrong" end of the spectrum. I just meant that for me, they are on the wrong end. I will be the first one to admit that I don't have all the answers. For all I know, they are teaching the truth and I am way off.

I attended an ecumenical event at a UCC church last weekend. I know the politics and recent history of the UCC so I was skeptical and almost didn't attend, but my wife forced me to go.

When I arrived, they had a large rainbow flag flying in the front of the church. On the wall inside, was a rainbow banner. On the wall behind the pulpit was a banner that read "God is still speaking", which I know from my experience with a leftist UMC pastor is code for "we throw out the parts of the bible that aren't progressive enough, and add in new stuff that is progressive."

The place just gave me the creeps.

Ok well I am going to disagree... however because many brethren have different opinions (many within their own churches/assemblies) I don't want to make a stink about it.

What does it mean to be baptized?
Why do we baptize?

Honestly, I don't want to get into it. That isn't the point of the thread.

I can certainly understand why you feel that way. Gay rights is a very big deal for many of these left-leaning churches and they aren't shy about that. If you think homosexuality is a sin, you are going to feel uncomfortable.

For me, abortion is really the issue I can't tolerate in church.

They actually do abortions in some churches?

Even a church that feels that abortion is OK does not hang "Get an abortion!" banners behind their pulpit. That banner behind the pulpit in that UCC church was simply sticking a great big middle finger up in God's face.

Most churhes are doing this today imho.

They will have their reward for being lukewarm... He will "spew" them out of His mouth. Look up the definition of spew... and you will get an idea of how He will deal with them.

Our usual definition of the lukewarm church is wrong. The full verse is:

“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.

We tend to think of "hot" as a church on fire, preaching the gospel with energy, and bringing the souls to Jesus by the truckload. So what is the "cold" one? Dead? Devoid of energy? Why would Jesus want that over one that is lukewarm?

Because Lukewarm is room temperature. In other words, it is conforming to the environment around it, as the UCC does with great fanfare and pride.

Some churches do this, but most are either cold or hot, or at least colder or hotter than room temp. Lukewarm is NOT everything between absolute zero and the melting point of titanium. Lukewarm is just a narrow band at room temperature. Everything else is cold or hot.

Don't condemn the churches for not being perfectly hot or cold, but do condemn the ones that try to mold the gospel and epistles to society. Those are the lukewarm ones.
