Hi, all!

Little disappointed in my giant (US) size 35 needle scarf project. :sorry:

It started off alright, but then my fingers started to cramp...and then the 4 strands of yarn began to look uneven...the huge bowling ball size of yarn was simply too awkward to tote around (I like to take my knitting with me when I'm out on some errand where I have to sit and wait).

I decided to put it away and instead to work on knitting one strand of yarn scarves. :idea:My plan was to knit scarves for everyone for Christmas. I have 2 1/2 months, right? Well, that is if the list doesn't get any longer. My only guy friend on my list wants his to be in his two favorite football team colors...and had the nerve to ask for a matching hat as well. Well I already know it definitely will not be a pattern using two strands together...he can forget it, if that's the case.

...but working a pattern by changing between 2 colors I haven't tried...so that should prove interesting...we'll see.

I know what you mean about the big needles and the thick yarn. It takes such a long time to wind the yarn around for each stitch. The smaller needles and less bulky yarn are much quicker. Have you given up on the giant scarf? How are the smaller scarves coming along?

I haven't started knitting anything for Christmas - not sure I'll knit anything now since it's only 4 weeks away.

I have never tried knitting socks! :)

Hi Leytonstones,

I knit a pair of socks as a 15/16 yearold for a Girl Guide badge. One was bigger than the other, they didn't fit and I have made no further attempts on sock knitting since! However, my daughter gave me a sock knitting kit a few Christmases ago and I thought I'd better have a go, but only recently finished winding up the 2 skeins of yarn that came with it! When I finish one of the projects I'm working on now I'll make a start.

Kelly Klym has a pattern for doing socks on 2 needles without a seam. I plan to try that sometime.

I'm an avid knitter but I've had to cut back on my knitting due to a wrist injury. My OT taught me to crochet as part of my therapy - it uses a different motion, so now I switch off between knitting and crocheting. I love hand knit socks and learned the magic loop techinique so I can make two at a time. It's a good way to avoid "second sock syndrome." I would love to learn the technique of knitting one sock inside the other - it's described in a Tolstoy novel and supposed to be amazing.

Hahaha yes I guess.

At the moment I'm trying to knit a simple hat but what I really want to do is podster gloves but that seem very difficult for me.

What are podster gloves?

Hope you're getting on ok with the hat. I knit one for dh for Christmas and to my great surprise and delight he has been wearing it.

They are a mix between gloves and mittens.

I finished the hat but it's not cold enough to wear it.

Now I started a lace scarf in mohair. I really enjoy knitting it.

Does anyone have any beginner patterns? I'm at the point where I can knit squares and scarves, but I'd like to try something a bit more advanced.

Are there any free patterns out there that you would recommend for someone of a beginner level?

You should have a look at Ravelry. It's an amazing site with a lot of patterns you can choose from. I'm sure you'll find something that you like.

Well done! Can we see it when it's finished?

Gillian

Ah, I put it aside when I packed for moving and haven't found the box I put it in yet. I'm debating if I will pull it out and start over. Somehow I managed to increase by several stitches and I'm about halfway done?

It's just a looonnnngggg series of x-number of knit stitches. I actually forgot how many; I'll have to go back and count. For some reason 11 and 23 are in my mind - I think it's supposed to be 23 knit stitches wide. But I think (if that's the case) I'm now at 27 stitches. :D

I love to knit as well, find it very therapeutic. I want to try socks, but havent yet.

Hi Rebecca Sue, I don't think I've said hello to you on this forum before, so hello!

Glad to find another lover of knitting. I'm not so keen on knitting socks, but my daughter gave me a kit a few Christmases ago which I should really make a start on. All I've done with it is wind the 2 skeins into balls lol. Kelly Klem the knitting designer, has designed a pattern for socks double-knit tubular style which is done on 2 straight needles.

Just one question - were you in the Crosswalk Forums before they went over to Facebook? I was there and seem to remember a fellow knitter who had a similar username to yours. Forgive me if I'm wrong.

Blessings,

Gillian
