It's likely that the waitress is lying. It's difficult to say if the manager is in on it if she is lying, or if he's an unsuspecting dupe.

Given the desperation to push an agenda, there's no telling how far they'll take it. since it is a felony fraud if she's lying, I wouldn't be surprised if it quietly goes away in a short time

So let's see, the Marine is likely lying, both the management of the company and CNN are likely dupes or liars. I guess that would also extend to the local affiliate and anyone else covering the story.
