The Miss USA Pageant celebrates the competitive spirit between women showcasing their talents and shimmering gender qualities.

Because America is the international beacon for community friendly marketing, the Miss USA Pageant perhaps reveals why international economics related problems such as poverty-catalyzed female prostitution in third world countries are signs of democracy (and Christianity) outreach crusades.

If America is ready to export McDonald's and Wendy's, perhaps they can also export gender capitalism.

Powerful stuff.

When I was little, my mother didn't want me to watch the pageants, or play with Barbies. This wasn't even a religious reason -- she was opposed to the objectification of women, and didn't want her kids to get wrapped up in it.

While it's true the US has these pageants, it is not exclusive to the US. Many countries host pageants and compete in the international ones. This is a way for women to get scholarships and hope for a better life (watch Miss Congeniality, lol), so while I think pageants do more harm than good, they do give a few people a career boost.
