Innocents died before guns, innocents would continue to die even if you waved around your little magic statist fairy wand made every gun in the world disappear.

Why should people be deprived of their means of self-defense?
The next kids are the blood on your hands.. Try being brave enough to not have a gun.
in a domestic situation cowards need guns..
toughen up hunni. walk the streets unarmed spreading peace!

Tut tut. Think before you post.

I ask again: why should people be deprived of their means of self-defense?

yu have a brain don't
Won't God protect you or do we worship a lifeless idol?

That doesn't answer my question. Why should people be deprived of their means of self-defense?

But that's an interesting argument. It would be a shame if, somewhere in the Bible, Jesus commanded someone to buy a weapon instead of guaranteeing divine protection.

Because trigger-happy paranoid people who shoot for "self-defense" when there is no need to don't make the streets safer for the rest of us. It's a sad world where someone can shoot innocents just because their imagination runs wild and claim "self-defense" to get away with murder.

And when one trigger-happy paranoid person sees another trigger-happy paranoid person drawing his gun and both start shooting to defend themselves, suddenly everyone is seeing bogeymen everywhere.

Worse, it's these irresponsible trigger-happy paranoid "self-defense" claiming gun owners who leave their guns loaded and unlocked up and available for children and criminals alike. That's how an ungodly number of kids get killed and injured and how criminals get their guns.

And for what? The number of people who successfully use a gun to defend themselves is between zero and nil. This "self-defense" is a American fantasy not unlike the American Dream: "you have to be asleep to believe in it".

So punish a hundred thousand people because five or six of them were evil or careless?

you are victim of your times. Maybe your god is the American constitution.

I dont care about that because the right thing to do is remove murder weapons from everyones hands. without murder weapons there is no premature death.

Ok you wont live forever..

Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

do What you think is right..

Your going to do anything to keep those guns but just don't complain the next time kids are killed as if you are not part of the problem!

A weapon becomes a murder weapon when it is used in a murder. What are you going to do, ban it retroactively?

without murder weapons there is no premature death.

Wow, that's probably the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

If you want your guns don't turn up in the next murdered child thread innocently. i have no guns and don't want any because I know my neibours are safer if nobody has them!

Your neighbor is not safer if nobody has them. Criminals are far less likely to break into someone's home when they're still there if they're in a society where owning a gun is common, and breaking into someone's house when they're still there isn't exactly safe for either party.

But again, you are trying to distract.

Attempt #4: Why should people be deprived of their means of self-defense?

Bull, you can't get rid of murder weapons and still let people have hands. Yesterday the news reported a 14 year old killing a 24 year old math teacher in Danvers with a box cutter.

Guns are the equalizers, they allow a 90 year old to defend themselves against a 20 year old.

Equating gun owners as guilty of the actions of murders is equivalent to equating all who drink alcohol guilty of the actions of drunk drivers.

So punish a hundred thousand people because five or six of them were evil or careless?

The difference between responsible gun ownership versus irresponsible gun ownership is this: in the US, 11% of long-gun owners store their firearms loaded versus 55% of hand-gun owners -- 55% is roughly 28 million irresponsible gun owners making the society less safe for their neighbours; and while only 7% of long-gun owners keep their firearms loaded and unlocked, a whopping 34% of hand-gun owners again are quilty of such incredible stupidity -- that is, 17 million super-irresponsible gun owners who don't know or don't bother with this thing responsible gun ownership, something that our guys learn in the army.

An unlocked gun is a gun available for criminals, who prefer stolen guns for the obvious reason of not being able to buy a legal gun. And loaded and unlocked gun is a gun available to a child, which is how an ungodly number of American children are killed and injured every month of every year, because of irreponsible adults who give the finger to proper gun safety while entertaining their "self-defense" fantasies.

Because a fantasy it is, with serious consequences for the rest of their neighbours, kids and adults alike:

Holding a gun makes you think others are too: Wielding a gun increases a person’s bias to see guns in the hands of others

Trigger-happy paranoid gun owners seeing bogeymen everywhere -- just what the society needs to feel "safe", and the United States of America is a living proof of this paranoid delusion.

I looked up statistics for deaths by box cutters in the US, but couldn't find a reliable source.

Maybe it's 11000, like from firearms, right? Or maybe it's not, but it would be much higher if firearms were less accessible, and everyone turned to box cutters as their murder weapon of choice? Maybe...

[/Sarcasm]

I made a point earlier in this thread which I hope wasn't lost. By all means insist on your right to bear arms. But accept, when you do, that the deaths of these kids are the cost of that right. Because they are. And admit that you consider this cost to be acceptable.

On 9-11-2001 box cutters killed nearly 3000 people in New York City. The hijackers used box cutters to hijack the planes, and the rest (unfortunately) is history.

We accept 25,000 automobile deaths every year in the U. S. A. as an unfortunate result of using cars. And since half of these fatalities involve alcohol, maybe we should outlaw that too...

(oh, we tried that a few years ago...didn't work out too well :| )

I wonder why there's such an endemic of school shootings in the US compared to the UK. Obviously, our more sane gun laws must factor in, but it must also be our better mental health care here.
The child in question was obviously mentally unstable, and so thought the only way to vent his feelings was to shoot others and die doing so. Sad.

The fallacies flow from you like a mighty river! (see what I did there? ;) )

Hey: Why not walk on the tracks of the train? Why worry about being run over by it?
Or why not go jogging on a highway late at night? Won't God protect you, or do you worship a lifeless idol?

I had to think about this one a little bit. If I had to choose between living in an illusion of safety or my right to keep and bear arms, well I prefer to live in a society that allows it's citizens to keep and bear arms.

We should try and bring the number of deaths down, but not at the expense of our rights.

Barak Obama has his kids in school with something like twelve armed professional "safety officers" roaming the halls; and most of the media moguls have their kids in the same school in D C; AND I understand the people who run that school are increasing the "police force" of that school anbd hiring more.
"When Guns are Outlawed; Only Criminals and Police Will Have Them"; and guess whether the police will beat the criminals to the scene of that crime!
