Because food stamp programs are what we need to cut.

Billions in experimental weapons technologies, and it's the need's food assistance that is unnecessary?

State governors can afford to give their rich friends enormous tax cuts, but poor people don't deserve the social safety net?

It's madness. Hopefully it will fail in the senate.

If the states have enough spaces in training programs what is the problem?

Why should able bodied adults get free food with no work or training for work on their part?

It seems this bill mainly cuts benefits to able bodied adults not working or in a state training program.
I agree. I'm guessing they have to cut a lot of thing, Since they plan to push Obama care.

I know were I live you can get free food from churches and the salvation army. They also prove showers for people that need them. Also if you cant afford kids. Why are people having them for tax payers to feed, provide housing and insurance. Also lets not forget about free cell phone that tax payers pay for. Most people know about birth control or adoption.

All this ....stuff... If the people ; the public; were to be given ten or twenty thousand dollars each family unit, we might have avoided all the...financial troubles.

How many million families?
just stop printing the dollars; andgive.
Some would waste it;
Some would use it to feed their kids...
sounds rediculas; yet, the banks throw the bucks at their friends and...
How 'bout some analisis here? Analyze it (can't find my word fixer here)

The main problem is that there is over 30 million people out of work in this country and there are not 30 million jobs out there. I think most people want to work, just that there are not enough jobs out there. Many of the jobs formerly done by American workers are now being by workers overseas. To deny food/assistance to those in need seems a bit uncharitable in my opinion.

When this is how you see the world, the idea that someone might not have enough money to buy food is just baffling. They MUST be dropping it on drugs or something, because that single mom is able to scrape by on a mere $260k/yr and she can do it.

um why not cut military spending. the people that want to cut this are for people starving. I guess they are also for government sanctioned murder too?
I would be okay with cutting both.

I know people that make a lot less and don't get any assistance.

If you offer it, they will come. If they expect you to feed them, they will wait.
When you don't give it to them, they will get upset, and might even get angry.

True for bears in our national parks and true for people in soceity too.

Better to encourage people to get out and work then to pay them to stay home.
Welfare is paying people not to work.

Some say its heartless to take food from these people. I think it is heartless to sentence these people to a lifetime of handouts, rather then encouraging them to become productive.

We are falling trillions of dollars in debt to give money to those in need. We need to live with in our budget.

How many heartless people see a homeless person on the street and don't go to the nearest bank and take out a loan to give the man money?
We must stop going to the bank of China to get money for the beggars on the street.(yes, individual or corp, or the beggar in another country.)

What is sad to me is all my life - as far back as I can remember - government has been talking about dealing with fraud. Yet, they aren't in that big of hurry to do it. That's what kills me.

The answer always seems to be 'its not that much money' or the 'the problem isn't that big'. So they ignore it. Yet, when you add up 'not that much money' over a lifetime? Its bigger than they think - or wish to admit.

The red tape and fraud cost alot of money, and no one wants to address it. Its truly sad.

If they would address the 'efficiency' aspect of these programs? These cuts wouldn't hurt so badly. Problem is when we speak about that? Groups SCREAM - those people are fine with people starving on the streets! People get scared they are going to be 'accused' of something...and nothing every happens AGAIN!

I happen to be on government assistance for disability although my parents still support me for the most part as I live at home. I want to work and support myself, however for certain reasons I am currently unable to do so. I either want to support myself or vote tp remove this aid from people why? because I feel that if you did not pay into the system why take out? I am not good at math, but I know enough to know that you simply cannot have more going out than you have coming in.

This has been my experience this year.

The kids have a friend of their's from school - he graduated with one of my mine. His mother is a loon, and kicked him out over a year ago. I honestly think she has some major mental issues, and told her kids she didn't want to support them anymore...and they had to leave. This was right before graduation.

He has been 'homeless' for over a year now. He works where he can find work, and his friends families - like ours and others - feed him and let him sleep over when there isn't room at the homeless shelter. I took him to apply for food stamps, and government housing. We all pay for things he NEEDS, and doesn't have the support to get himself. He is constantly on the hunt for jobs.

We had to go to a meeting about the housing portion. The entire room was filled to the brim with single mothers - and their children. They were living with their families until they could get their 'housing'. I was so upset, because here is this kid with NOTHING! They were dressed in their best - gold jewelry, etc. They told us to call back around Christmas time - this was a while ago - to see where he is on the waiting list. I have no idea if he will have a place at that time, or if he is going to have to wait longer. My guess? Longer. Winter is coming, and I'm scared for him. We give him what resources we have, but I know its not enough. Thank goodness other friends are helping him as well.

The homeless shelter offers me a place to sleep at night, but doesn't offer anything else. He has a friend now that has a car, and when they sleep in there at times. They said we should hear about the food stamps within 10 days, and that was over a month ago. They still have no answers.

Thankfully, he is the motivated type. He is smart, and does have his HS diploma. I'm learning about the 'system' because of him, and its SAD! Individuals like him fall through the cracks, and if I were guessing...because he doesn't have children in tow. We heard those girls talk about living with their families, and he has no one.

Government 'handouts' as people like to call it isn't what these kids need. It helps of course, but they need to finish their education (most of them need their HS stuff). They MUST insist on some type of training programs, and pushed to find employment once they graduate from that. They don't do that. They don't truly FORCE them to do much of anything. If you aren't forced? They aren't going too.

My education this year with the 'system' was very eye opening. Please pray for "Brandon" if you would. He needs help, and more support than I think we can offer. Its truly heart breaking.

We have disability programs for just your type of case. We pay taxes for that, because its the right thing to do.

I have a BIL that went into the disability program about 2 years ago.

I don't feel to many people have an issue with this, because it is for the greater good.

It would be nice if they reformed the system, and then found ways of cleaning up the fraud. I was reading just the other day that one of the networks had a special on how a group of lawyers, etc are making huge amount of cash by playing the system.

Those are the types of people that cause more money to go out compared to into the system. You are the one that the system was designed for - as my BIL - but the crooks mentioned above and their clients? They are a huge contributor to the problem.

You don't need to remove yourself. The crooks need to be hunted down, have their assets taken away, and thrown them jail. THEY are the ones that need to be removed - NOT YOU!

So basically you want to arrange for somebody else's ox to be gored. As long as you get your government assistance, you don't care if their kids go hungry.
