Please forgive my ignorance. I'm trying to get my head around Calvin theology. My question is does anyone that hears and accept the gospel of Christ become saved if they accept Christ as there saviour?

John 3:16
If one believes he is saved. It has nothing to do with asking Christ to be your Saviour or accepting Him first, "We love because He first loved us" 1 John 4, either He is, or He is not. There are no magic words to become saved.
There are many who call Jesus Lord and are not saved according to scripture.

According to God's word, the Holy Spirit regenerates (quickens) and elect, upon hearing the gospel, therefore they believe.

Paul says in Romans 1: For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

There is nothing here about trying to be saved or reciting a prayer. When one is regenerated by the Spirit, he (eventually) finds himself believing.
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. Eph 2.
Jonah says, Salvation is from the Lord.
Therefore, we have nothing to boast in, it is all God's doing.

You see believing is descriptive of a believer, not prescriptive. Indictive: that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; Romans 10.

To many people look at the gospel as if it is prescriptive...... having to follow rules and things to get saved, this is not the case.

Again, For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes,

frankly, one must believe in the gospel, the gospel tells us about Jesus Christ, and it is He alone we must believe in for salvation. By believing the gospel (Jesus Christ) we have salvation, because is the power unto salvation.

Man in his natural state does not accept the things of the spirit, the gospel is foolishness to him, therefore he cannot believe. Jesus said, Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Therefore not everyone will believe on Christ, but whosoever believes has eternal life, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3.

Hope this helps. :)

God bless.

John 3:16
When one sees Christ through the spirit (regeneration) He is irresistible.

I'm glad to hear this. I pray God will richly bless you as you continue to seek His truths.

The man asked for a simple yes or no to his question.

Yes, but sinfully we seek to make him a theological convert instead of exalting Christ with a simple, humble answer. I am thoroughly rebuked.

lol

As you can see Mr. Avery, there is no shortage of solid, biblical material to read and study here in the Semper Reformanda forum.

People have been very helpful with information on this thread. I am very thankful to all.

I did indeed. But I'll admit the more I study on this I understand a little more why the answeres I did get. I can understand that sometimes people can get defensive sometimes thinking I could be just trolling to start trouble. But I was supplied some great resources and am very thankful.
