Here's an important article that was published back in May.

Turkey finds sarin gas in homes of suspected Syrian Islamists – reports

Turkish security forces found a 2kg cylinder with sarin gas after searching the homes of Syrian militants from the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Nusra Front who were previously detained, Turkish media reports. The gas was reportedly going to be used in a bomb.

The sarin gas was found in the homes of suspected Syrian Islamists detained in the southern provinces of Adana and Mersia following a search by Turkish police on Wednesday, reports say. The gas was allegedly going to be used to carry out an attack in the southern Turkish city of Adana.

On Monday, Turkish special anti-terror forces arrested 12 suspected members of the Al-Nusra Front, the Al-Qaeda affiliated group which has been dubbed "the most aggressive and successful arm” of the Syrian rebels. The group was designated a terrorist organization by the United States in December.

It could be just as likely that Al Qaeda Rebel forces used chemical weapons on civilians in Syria, in order to get the West to attack Assaad's military.

We need to pray for Obama to refrain from using military force and for him to have the wisdom on what to do in this very difficult situation.

Egypt’s Christians come to defense of Grand Imam of Al-Azhar

The Council of Christian Churches in Egypt has come to the defense of Ahmed el-Tayeb, Grand Imam of al-Azhar and president of al-Azhar University, the world’s leading center of Sunni Muslim learning.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey blasted el-Tayeb for supporting the ouster of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi--an ouster also backed by several Christian prelates.

“That scholar is finished,” said Erdogan, according to a report in Today’s Zaman, a Turkish newspaper. “History will curse men like him, as history cursed similar scholars in Turkey before.”
Father Bishoy Helmy, the Coptic Orthodox priest who serves as secretary general of the Council of Christian Churches in Egypt, paid tribute to “the virtues of the imam and his human stature,” the Fides news agency reported.

US should do more to protect Coptic, Syrian Christians, says religious freedom commission chair

The chairman of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom called upon the Obama administration to use its leverage to help protect Christians in Egypt and Syria.

“I think we need to put pressure on the military government to protect the Coptic Christians, and to make the protection of the Coptic Christians a high priority,” Robert George said in an interview with Catholic World Report. “We need to make it clear that where attacks on Christians are done with impunity, and where the government just looks aside or doesn’t treat the issue as serious enough to protect the victims, there will be consequences in our relations with the military rulers in Egypt.”

In Syria, “we do not have much leverage, certainly, with the Assad regime,” he added. “We have leverage with the Saudis and we should be using that to protect the Christians and other persecuted minorities … We need to be working with the international community to relieve the plight of Syrian refugees, especially those from the Christian community who are, like my own relatives, fleeing.”

The chairman is delusional, the US has no leverage in Egypt or anywhere in the Middle East.

We need the Suez Canal, and all sides in the civil strife in Egypt know this.

They have the leverage, not us.

I think that Europe needs the Suez Canal. The US has a much lesser need. If the world price of oil goes up, the US companies (and other American companies) will do fine selling to US markets (and to Asian markets). There is no energy deficit in the Americas, probably not even in the US alone in 4 years.

Or perhaps, you mean that US companies need the Suez Canal because of their economic interests in the region. That has been our albatross for 100 years now

Yeah, that's what I meant.

Why the hell else do we get involved in wars in the Middle East, starting with the 1st Gulf War ?

I have a lot of respect for our Coptic brothers and sisters.

Indeed. They have survived millennia of Islamic hegemony. God keep them safe through this current bout of oppression. Our Assyrian brothers, too. :crosseo:

Why is this thread tagged "interrogate the victim", "Israel is awesome", and "let's all become Jews"?

Maybe they're frequently searched phrases... Either way, tis clever.
