Assad crossed a line when he used chemical weopans. If not us then who can give him a bloody nose for this. I do not support any kind of invasion but surgical strikes against chemical weopans stocks etc seem fair enough.
Somebody crossed a line if those chemical weapons were used. The U.N. inspectors do have some evidence that they were used but they still don't have any evidence about who used them.
The US has evidence that makes them think Assad used them. But on youtube, there are videos of the rebels using them.
I don't know that much about what's happening but I do know that a "surgical" strike is an act of war. I also know that Congress said that unless the UN finds conclusive evidence and approves a strike, then America shouldn't risk starting a war with a country that hasn't attacked the US.
Anyway, dad thinks this isn't about Syria. He says it's about invading Syria to shut down an oil pipeline that was built for Iran to help Iran's economy. He said that the virus we sent to the Iranian computers and all the sanctions weren't enough to shut down Iran so this is like the next step or something.
So Russia and the US have interests in Syria.
But the really epic question is who will be in power in Syria when Assad's gone? Probably all the terrorists and Al-queda. I think everybody saw what happened in Iraq.
Tbh, I think it's a huge no win/no win.
Are the UN's hands tied, meaning they can't do anything about it ?
Won't do anything about it. The UN won't support attacks on another country unless there's evidence that the government is doing something seriously illegal against it's own people.
But the UN has to do that with a vote and Russia and China probably won't vote for a strike.
Obama still wants to do a "surgical" strike but if he does, he will be doing it without International support and without Congressional support. And without the support of 91% of Americans.
Members of Congress said yesterday that if he strikes without any approval, they will consider it a violation of the Constitution and the terms of Obama's Presidency.
Imo, talks are what are needed, not more killing. War just makes people more angry. Talks are the only way to make anything better.
Assad was willing to talk but the rebels refused to go to the peace talks.
