Our Coptic brother has many times asked us to support the Butcher of Damascus.

I didn't ask you to support anyone , i ask you to be away from the middle east, you will do the same mistake again as you did in Iraq ... look at Iraq now , it is a settlement for Al Qaeda and all radical groups who cut heads and kill and explode . Sadam was dictator , yes . but the country was in peace ( No democracy but it was very better than now )

The syrian president is dictator . yes. But syria was good place for people to live , there was peace among muslims and christians there. See , what happens now !!!!

Just stop your government dirty game. Yes , your Army is dirty killing innocents . You did it before in Iraq . GO AWAY

Your liar government claim that they will attack Syria to defend peaceful people . SO WHY YOUR ARMY DON"T FIGHT ISRAEL TO PROTECT PALESTINIANS FROM KILLING BY ISRAEL ... Israel kills babies, kids , women everyday .. Israel kill protesters who throw stones by guns and aircraft , Israel destroy homes and invade lands of peaceful people . WHY your coward army don't fight Israel .
WHY UN DON"T !!

The answer is simple . America fight only for its own benefits and for Israel too . Stop pretending that you are good and peaceful . I know that most of Americans are away and know nothing about this , they are good people But your government is greed

You are calling the syrian President a Butcher which is right, So, what would be the suitable name to call your Governments !! It seems that you forget what your dirty government did in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan , Japan ( yes Japan attacked you , But as Butcher you attacked them with nuclear bombs ) SOOOOOOOO DISGUSTING .. Really so DISGUSTING

America is acting as " The world Policeman " . SO disgusting .

And I don't disagree with anything you have said.

In fact, it's what I've been saying all along, US best interest is to get out of the Middle East and let the people there settle their wars their way.

Anyways... speaking of the oppression of our Coptic brethren in Egypt, there's an ongoing thread on the matter at orthodoxchristianity.net forums. I don't know if I'm allowed to post links?
You can post links having to do with the subject.

To be clear, the US (and the West) should ignore humanitarian crises and war crimes and simply let the people be gassed?

It's a sad and difficult situation, but the US can not act alone, must get the UN with the surrounding Middle East Nations involved.

Going alone will only make the situation worse and we only come out on the bad end either way.

I can say something - but defer - due to the 'source' which many deny.
But yah WWlll is coming.

UNLESS we repent.
Not seeing that happen. Most dont even see the sins to begin with.

Substitute "NATO" for "the UN" and I agree. I would note that we will have support of some (clearly not all) of surrounding Middle Eastern states (certainly Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Jordan).

We cannot hold our foreign and humanitarian policies hostage to wishes of Russia and China.

Coptic, I think you're being a bit harsh. I know English isn't your first language, so I think some of us know that not all English-learners are aware of how harsh things can sound. Saying "liars, liars" is way too strong and generalizing like Chany said.

Most of us in here will acknowledge the U.S. government has done some sickening, corrupt things. No argument there at all. But the generous consensus seems to be that Assad is gassing his own people.....

And unlike the junk with Iraq, the President made it clear today that he is NOT out for regime change. Assad is NOT the target, according to President Obama. At this point, I'll take him on his word.

I will say, though, that the U.S. has a curious history of selective outrage. When Darfur was going down and millions of women were being raped and slaughtered along with children and the aged, Rwanda with the same sickening results, the U.S. was pretty quiet. We acted in Kosovo and Somalia, but not in Darfur or Rwanda or other places. Yet we're looking into Syria and got the UN led by the U.S. into Libya.

We're inconsistent, I'll give you that. But keep in mind that presidents come and go, certain parties are in power here, and the people grow tired and weary of war (as they should!). And yet the U.S., as the last great superpower, is sadly the only force left that can stop the carnage in situations like this as the U.N. has become a sad, impotent, silent body of milktoasts....

Take it easy on the anti-American stuff, Coptic. We're sympathetic to you in Egypt, many Americans are against the hawkish stuff that has gone on in the previous decade, and we're sharply divided on issues like this.

There are Americans who think we should intervene in EVERYTHING and nation-build and try to force democracy on people that could care less and even hate the notion. Then there are people who are totally apathetic with a "hey, let 'em all die over there. I don't care!" attitude. Then there are people somewhere in between. The Middle East is A MESS.

There is a difference here.

In Iraq, George Bush claimed there were WMD's in Iraq and Saddam needed to be removed. The UN inspectors couldn't find anything, before and Cheney and Bush suckered the US into an unnecessary war.

In Syria, it's the UN inspectors who are seeing the results of chemical weapons which were used. They're seeing the victims first hand and taking blood samples to confirm that they were gassed.

But, again, this must go through the UN Coalition. Why is the Arab League so silent ? Why are they not the one's responding, they certainly have the money and military ability.

Why does the world look to the United States to take care of these things ?

Syria isn't a NATO Allie, nor are the rebels, so it NATO has no military alliance on the issue.

In the 1st Gulf War after Saddam invaded Kuwait, H. W. Bush got a coalition, which included the Arab league to drive Saddam out of Kuwait.

The same should be done in this instance. If not, we'll only be supporting rebel groups who are also killing civilians and doing other horrible things.

We can't win an alliance in Syria.

Be aware that Congress *voted* to go to war and many nations (besides the U.S.) were aware of the WMD at the time--even now some suggest that the WMD of Syria are actually some Saddam was able to "spirit out" of his country, before the coalition acted.

It was always claimed that the president of the U.S. *had* to go to Congress and a coalition of nations *had* to be in place *before* he got us into war. Now, the *very same people* who screamed the loudest about that are saying that Obama can act "all by his lonesome."
