Christians shouldn't have pets.

There is no biblical view of pets. The subject is never raised.

Actually, there do seem to be references to domesticated pets in the Bible. For example, the Syrophenician woman told Jesus "yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs" (Mark 7:28). Apparently, both Jesus and this Syrophenician woman recognized that dogs were living in peoples' homes (unless their children were eating at outdoor tables, which isn't likely) and able to eat the crumbs which fell from "their master's table" (Matt. 15:27). Another example could be found, I believe, in what the LORD said to Job in reference to leviathan:

"Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?" - Job 41:5

Several other translations render this as "make a pet of it as a bird" and "put him on a leash for your girls":

Job 41:5 Can you make a pet of it like a bird or put it on a leash for the young women in your house?

Anyhow, after Christ's return, even a little child shall lead about wolves, leopards and lions (Isaiah 11:6), so I cannot imagine that God is opposed to children having tame pets now.

They will stray you away from God and the lord, his son, Jesus Christ. You will have to take care of them and deal with them all the time, man. You will have less time to fast, pray and repent. Hear me out, man.

I have a holy pet. He fasts and prays with me. :satisfied:

Only when you haven't fed him for a while...

No, he is a holy pet. When he is hungry he takes his anger out on the money changers. I've seen him overturn 15 tables one time.

I think that's a pretty wild statement to make OP. Is there some scripture or historical tradition within Christianity or Judaism substantiating it?

Personally, I had to dog sit for a friend last week. While I was happy to do it, I noticed that I rarely had time to relax or focus on studying and reading. It was a small dog and always required attention and walking.

My cat on the other hand is perfect for a Christian. She sleeps beside any Bible she can find, it's kind of funny..

You have a holy cat. Maybe my holy dog and your holy cat can pray together.

After a couple days of PMs with the OP, and the OPs posting history, I'd have to say that there is an excellent chance that it is a wild statement designed to provoke reaction (not an honesty held belief). :(

Nobody let the OP know that many churches have a service known as the Blessing of the Animals, where we actually bring our furry and feathery friends to be blessed. Because, you know, God declared all creation good, and all creation is included in God's redemptive work to save the world.

"The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof. O God, enlarge within us the sense of fellowship with all living things, our brothers the animals to whom Thou gavest the earth as their home in common with us. We remember with shame that in the past we have exercised the high dominion of man with ruthless cruelty so that the voice of the earth, which should have gone up to Thee in song has been a groan of travail. May we realize that they live not for us alone, but for themselves and for Thee and that they love the sweetness of life even as we, and serve Thee better in their place than we in ours." --prayer by St. Basil the Great

Why all the fuss over pets?
Our spirituality compels us to express gratitude for the love and blessings our pets give us. What better way to show our feelings for these faithful members of our families than to ask God's blessing for them in return?

Igor: You know, I'll never forget my old dad. When these things would happen to him... the things he'd say to me.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: What did he say?
Igor: "What the *heck are you doing in the bathroom day and night? Why don't you get out of there and give someone else a chance?"
