This is no ordinary sin here, like stealing or lying. This sin ruins peoples lives. I don't think God would tolerate it for one second if he were here. Maybe you should send your little child down to the local priest to get his fair share of abuse. And then after a couple of years, when you find out, go in there and shake the priests hand, and say I forgive you brother. No harm, no foul. Then after a couple more years go by, and you find out that your son is now a homosexual, you might say, Oh-well - such is life.

You might call this priest your brother, but he is no brother of mine. He is the enemy.

Yeah we should pray for our enemies, but hand our kids over to them, so they can be destroyed?? COME ON. WAKE UP. These priests will not stand a chance in Gods Kingdom. This is not even close to the WAY, the Truth and the LIFE that Jesus spoke of. They are not even luke warm.

We do need to forgive them, but at the same time punish them.
We must do ALL in love.
Now some want to say it is a problem in all churches. I dont see it as being so common in other denominations.
Look at this:
In recent weeks, the archdiocese has given prosecutors the names of more than 80 active and former priests accused of abuse over the past four decades. Nine priests have been suspended.
80 priests? That is no small number.

It's extremely sad that they are doing this :( Why couldn't they just say, "I'm sorry, God, I'll never do it again! Forgive me for doing this for so long!" and then, well, like that? But they don't want to. How VERY sad :( I don't understand some people these days.

God bless :)

And then some of the higher ups, when they find out, they just try to hide the fact that it even happened. So they transfer these priests into another unsuspecting town. These Cardinals or whoever they are that are doing the transfering, they are just as guilty as the priests that are committing these horrible acts, and even moreso in my view. Just hide them before anyone finds out. Whatever happened to the ex-communication doctrine?? No- thats for lesser sins right?? Go figure. I started this thread because I am sick and tired of hearing this. This gives christians a bad rap in a lot of cases, and I can't justify it with my words. All I know is, that if I had any part in the Catholic Church, I would run.

Accused, solo66, accused. Not proven. Accused. Big difference.

Try not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, Thunder. You're free to reject the entire Catholic Church because of the sexual misconduct of a few if you so desire; but while you're running, you'd better run like wildfire away from the Protestant churches as well. I suggest you peruse the thread which I have linked below:

http://thebruces.stormbirds.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=7108&highlight=sexual+abuse

This is not a Catholic problem. Nor is it a Protestant problem. It's not even an American problem. What it is, is a human problem. And a very, very sad one, at that. I agree that there is no excuse for what these people have done; but tearing down churches, of any denomination, because of the actions of these people, is not the answer, IMHO.

You are, of course, under absolutely no obligation to agree with me.

God bless all here,
---Wols.

Hello Wolseley,
Please don't misunderstand me. I was told yesterday that I use hard words. Maybe that is true. I do appreciate a bold witness for Jesus. I never have cared for beating around the bushes. But, what you read here, is not the way I really am, not all the time anyway. I was very shy all my life, and never have liked being in the middle of a big croud. But I am usually always bold when it comes to my Savior, and I think it is the least I can do.

It was not my intention to bash the entire Catholic Church. I know I have some brothers and sisters in that denomination. I have friends too that are Catholic. But I don't personally know a christian in that denomination that really knows his bible. But, there are some that do. I also believe that there are many false teachings and rituals in this denomination, without going into all of them, because that was not my intention here. There are false teachings in several of our churches in these last days, and we should try to expose them. Yes, Protestants too. That's one of the reasons that I don't claim a denomination, and because they are always changing. But our God does not change, and neither do his teachings.

I believe that it's time to take a stand for the way, the truth and the life. Time is getting short. Maybe if we made a loud enough noise, then someone will stand up and take notice. I am not Catholic, and fixxing the Catholic Church is not my job, but some one needs to answer the bell here. The Lord gave me lyrics to a song, and just yesterday, I gave them to our Minister of Music so he can put some music to it. Then I will give it to our youth band. I am not asking for money. I'm doing it for Jesus. I'm trying to store up my treasures in heaven. Anyway here is just one verse from that song. I think it fits this subject.

We live in the final hour
and it's time to take a stand
Our God reigns in power
And He has the perfect plan

Understood. But just remember: if you have a burden for souls, you'll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. "Hard words", to use your term, tend to erect barriers and drive people away, and then your real message gets lost.

Given the poor state of Catholic catechesis in the United States since Vatican II, I don't find that surprising. It is starting to turn around, though.
I also believe that there are many false teachings and rituals in this denomination, without going into all of them, because that was not my intention here.
That doesn't surprise me either, although you will indulge me if I don't share your viewpoint. :)
There are false teachings in several of our churches in these last days, and we should try to expose them.
Or at the very least, be aware of them.
I believe that it's time to take a stand for the way, the truth and the life. Time is getting short. Maybe if we made a loud enough noise, then someone will stand up and take notice.
I'm not sure if that's the best method. I seem to recall Elijah not hearing God's voice in hurricanes, earthquakes, or raging fires---but only in a tiny, whispering sound. (1 Kings 19:11-13.)
I am not Catholic, and fixxing the Catholic Church is not my job, but some one needs to answer the bell here.
To paraphrase something I heard Jose Ferrar say in an old movie once, just try to do your bell-answering with a bit of discretion, won't you? :)

Spendid! We can always use more talented people to create good music.

There has been some discussion over the matter of forgiveness.

In regard to Jesus' comments on forgiveness (7x7), I think He meant it from the Christian victim's point of view. The victim should try to forgive the perpetrator. This act of forgiveness does *NOT* mean that the sin was OK. Nor does it mean reconciliation. A sin is still a sin. Such sins mentioned are esp. detestable in the Lord's eyes - witness Sodom and Goromah.

Forgiveness means that you surrender your judgement on that person to God. As Jesus said on the cross- Forgive them for they know not what they are doing. This however does *NOT* free the perpetrators- sexual molestors etc.. - from God's wrath and judgement.

But by forgiving them- the victim is allowing God's grace to enter into the victim's life bringing wholeness and healing; he gives up the cancer of hurt and bitterness.

If he does not, he can actually end up being what he hates. Hence, a child who is beaten by a drunken father, if he grows up bitter and angry, often turns to alcohol and violence.

Forgiveness also does not mean reconciliation - it only opens the path for that (provided the person has truly repented and changed). When Jesus died and forgave all the sins of the world, that did not mean that everyone would go straight to Heaven. In the case of such terrible abuse, it would be absolutely wrong for the victim to continue to stay with perpetrator or for the perpetrator to remain in office.

Although the victim has the right to forgive, the institution which looks after them- whether a school or church etc.. has a *different* priority. It has a duty of care. Romans 13:3-5. And it is suppose to punish the perpetrators. What did Paul teach about backslidden Christians who refuse to repent? He said, "Have nothing to do with them!" What more sexual monsters? In the very least, take away their authority and power and never ever give it back to them. IMHO, they should at least be imprisoned for over 100 years.

Why not? Their victims and families have already been scarred for life.

What is this world coming to?? Duh?? I heard about two more in the U.S. this morning in the news. I work in a prison, and in my Dormitory I have just received a 16 year old kid who was charged with murder. He murdered two Catholic Priests, because they were molesting him. SICK, SICK, SICK. It really seems to be spreading fast.

How dare you imply that being gay and being a child molester are related.

What do you base this on? Being gay (attracted to the same sex) and being a pedophile (attracted to young children) are completely independant, there are far more stragiht peophiles in the world, far more people locked up for molesting young children of the opposite sex. I am gay yet I am not a pedophile and this accusation is highly offensive.

Too bad. Approximately 7% of the world's population is gay, approximately 7% of the world's population has been gay and approximately 7% of the world's population will be gay. From now, until the end of time.

Sorry if that doesn't match up with your ******** worldview. Would you prefer we all be herded into ghettos and forced to wear pink triangles on our clothes?

I suppose that's a little extreme. I'd rather you just obey your Maker.
Good thing your opinion counts for nothing in the court of reality.
LOL. That makes debating easier, doesn't it? It must be alot easier than actually making a point.
Love the sinner, hate the sin
Exactly.
